Turn 1:
He won first turn and set up his two Kroot squads in forward positions in area terrain with his
HQ close behind only holding his stealthsuits in reserve. I put my Nightbringer in the center 18" from one of his Kroot squads dead ahead of me, and I would let everything come in on turn one.
He brought his entire army save the stealthsuits onto the table and had them spread out. On my far left he had the two fish and the two Piranhas in front of them. Beside them he had one of his Railheads. On my far right he had his second Railhead with the Broadsides next to them. He then placed his remaining Firewarriors in his center near his own board edge. His
HQ's missile pod caused a wound on my Nightbringer. Maybe I made a mistake...
On my turn I moved up the Nightbringer and my Lord, Pariahs, and 4 Warrior squads were a step behind. On my far right I turbo-boosted all the destroyers and scarabs at least 19" up the board. I was able to run everything at least 4", and my Nightbringer was in assault range.
Turn 2:
His stealth suits out-flanked from my right. They took up defensive positions in front of the Railhead. Everything in range shot the Nightbringer and the Scarabs. Nothing happened. Too Many 4+ saves on my part and the Scarabs 2+ cover save didn't faulter.
I ran the warriors, Lord, and Pariahs up again. My Scarabs turbo-boosted the rest of the way and landed in front of his suits. My Destroyers caused a couple of wounds on his
HQ and my Heavy Destroyers couldn't get past the Railhead's 4+ cover save. The Nightbringer assaulted the Kroot squad, dropped a pie plate, killed 13 of them, caught them in a sweeping advance, and consolidated 5" towards his
HQ.
Turn 3:
He moved his fish and piranhas into attacking position on my left flank. Everything shot at the Nightbringer and Scarabs. The Nightbringer took another wound from the Broadsides and one of the Scarabs took a wound. His Kroot had range on a warrior squad and fell a couple of them. His Piranhas fell another 2 Warriors. He then assaulted both of my Scarabs with his suits. That combat would last until the end of the game with me having two swarms and him being down to one suit. Nothing exciting there.
Two of the warriors got up. My Destroyers and Pariahs wiped out a squad of warriors. The Nightbringer assaulted his
HQ and massacred 5" again.
Turn 4:
He shoot my warriors and Nightbringer. My Nightbringer lost another 2 wounds. I lost 11 warriors. His Railhead killed a Heavy Destroyer. His remaining Kroot assaulted a warrior squad. He killed one and I killed one. Stalemate.
Five warriors got up. Turn four and I still had not lost a
KP. I had already claimed 3. I maneuvered all my destroyers and piranhas and shot his Broadsides. I killed a few drones...just enough to force a check... I moved my Warriors so I had nothing in range. I ended the shooting phase and he took a
Ld test...and failed. His broadsides ran off the board. I assault his other slogging Firewarrior squad with the Nightbringer using his regular attacks to hopefully finish the combat his next turn. I threw a second warrior squad into
HtH with his Kroot. Good news: his Firewarriors and Kroot were cut down. Bad News: I was all exposed for return fire.
Turn 5:
The rest of shooting saw the demise of the Nightbringer, knocking down a 5 man warrior squad, and knocking down half of another squad.
Technically he got a
KP for that warrior squad...even though 4 of them stood back up to join another unit. The rest of my shooting took out a Piranha's fusion blaster and took down two drone squads for a couple of easy
KPs.
I rolled a 2 for random game length so that's where it ended.
Well I'm going to drop a unit of warriors for a full unit of Flayed Ones. This game is just another example for me that 4 units of warriors just aren't needed. So against Non-Fearless armies, I will have a lot of say for what goes on in the assault phases for both armies. The Nightbringer is a juggernaught that shrugs off all kinds of suppressive fire. After this game, I'm a big fan. Anything he touched disappeared and anything that could see him ran away shooting at him. If all the shooting at him had been directed at the rest of my army. I would've seen a lot more warriors drop. But if he had ignored the Nightbringer...it would have eaten through a tank or another unit.
But maybe that's the point... If you do ignore him and deploy right, he won't touch anything until turn 3. If you get lucky and get the game to end in 5...then he will only kill 3 units figuring that he touches something soft every turn. Maybe ignoring something like him can be worth it to try and make me phase out...what do you think?
