Anyone ever bust out a battle force's worth of mini's and fight a tiny game? No real points, just whatever comes in the army's respective $90 box set. I recently did this with Dark Eldar Vs. Orks.
This was one of the most ridiculous games Ive played in awhile! That, and the fact that by the end of the game, there were about 5 total figures left on the field at the end of the game.
My opponent had my 2 warrior squads running, but they were above half strength, rallied, and proceeded to splinter cannon the piss outta the remaining Boyz.
Im thinking this is almost easier, though not necessarily quicker, than the 40k in 40min. I like it as a simple way to get some wargaming in in a very busy week.
Who would've thought that a wife and baby would've been so time consuming??? lol.
Anyways, Im sure Im not the only one who's thought of this, so if anyone wants to comment, or throw in a few battle reports, please do!
If you havent tried it, you should give it a shot, I mean, getting a tiny game in is better than no gaming!
adios!

Sounds fun, I wonder what the most dominant battle force is right out of the box.

I always wondered the same thing, which battle force could beat all the other battle forces? The Nids battle force seems pretty potent with 8 gaunts, 8 hormagaunts, 8 Stealers, 3 Warriors, and a Fex.

Eldar w/ their Falcon might get a few wounds on 'fex, but I don't know about anything else. SM lose.

The only thing about the Eldar, is they have a new battle force with 5 Dire Avengers, 10 Guardians w/ Platform, 1 war walker, and a wave serpent.
The tyranid and tau battleforces seem to be two of the best, at least in the aspect of starting an army, they're the only two that come with an HQ usable units (crisis suit and 'nid warriors).
As mentioned before, I used the Dark Eldar against the Orks (the new ork battleforce mind you) with awesome results. I did forget to mention that we each took one "lesser" HQ to lead the forces.
I took a Haemonculus with minimal upgrades, and he took a Big Mek in the same fashion.
Im really interested in trying out the Tau battle force against his Orks, the only thing slowing me down is that I started a color scheme (the white/red from the Cities of Death cover), but have come to the conclusion that it's just too much of a process, only after painting 4 fire warriors, lol. figures.....
Anyways! It's hard to say which would be the most dominant because they arent really evenly matched. I mean, Legion 91 mentioned the Tyranids, well, what would the Space Marines (15 Tactical, 5 Scouts, 5 Assault Marines, 1 Rhino), have to even dent the 'fex? That Missle Launcher only shoots once a turn, but you're also NOT shooting the rest of the swarm.
Keep your tales of battle comin' !

Sad that the battleforces are so imbalanced otherwise this would be a really fun idea.
That tyranid box just owns everything else.

I dont know, the dark eldar one is fast enough to outrun the 'nids I think, the Tau can definitely outshoot them, the Orks can match their numbers almost and Nobs w/ PKs are always good....
Its really a tough call...
Anyone else ??

The Imperial Guard one is pretty good. Not much out of a Battleforce is going to take down a Leman Russ.

True on the Leman, but you only have to pass your rolls once. But taking it down isn't the problem, it's the template.
I hadn't been paying attention to some of the new/changed battleforces... don't remember getting Assault Marines ten years ago!

It would be even harder to make officer-free guardsman do much of anything vs. pinning or melee. the fact that you can barely make a troops choice from the box makes me think twice about it's competativeness here.

what about the necron codex? 28 warriors would be a giant pain and 3 destroyers would do some dmg? and the 7 scarab swarms is to lock up the fex in combat?

i like this idea, but there should also be an extra £20 / $40 or so limit to include a HQ if needed and an extra squad or tank.
