Greetings one and all. I recently got into 40K, used to play fantasy back in the day, So im relearning all the stuff i forgot. Anyway, Ive started to build a Black Templar Army, and i have a question about arming Initiates. Ive been reading alot of army lists to get a better understanding of what is being used in this army. One fairly common thing that pops up is giving power fists to all Inititiates in a Crusader squad for close combat. In the Codex for the the Templars, it states that only 1 Initiate can have a pf, so how can a whole unit have them?
help me please!!

Welcome to DakkaDakka.
BT is a good choice. In fact, only one Initiate per squad can have a powerfist, not all members, lol.
Any idea for an army list?

Well, the two guys I'll be playing against have 1500pt armies, 1 is IG ,the other is CSM. Right now all I have is 1 unit of 14 [9 Ini with pistol and ccw, 1 with flamer, 4 neo with pistol and ccw.] 1 unit of 9 Ini with bolters. and the EC. Im not sure what direction to go to. But I want to start some skirmishes with these guys to get my feet wet.

Well, start with 1000 pt games.
Take two large Crusader squads, each with power fist and melta (or flamer), EC, Master, and some support units (two Preds with triple lascannons, or two Dreads with lascannon, missile launcher).

Thanks for the info and the pf clarification. I will be buying some more models this weekend so Ill keep that in mind. What are your views on taking a chaplain instead of a marshall? Another Q I have is about morale checks. The space marine rule, 'and they know no fear states that they alway pass morale tests, but the righteous zeal rule for the BT says that you must take the checkduring your shooting phase if you suffered casualties. which is it?

In the 5th ed, I'd take the Marshall guaranteeing each squad maximum leadership.
You interpreted the righteous zeal rule in the right way: take a ld check if the squad suffered casualties in the shooting phase.
BT are fearless in cc and if they lose cc, they suffer by taking additional armor saves.
The SM special rule applies to BT only in one situation, when a BT unif falls back during shooting. It regroups automatically if there is no enemy within 6''.

I purchased some more models this weekend, so as of know I have 1 unit of 14[ 1 with flamer ,9 with ccw and pistol,4 neo with ccw and pistol.] 1 unit of 14[ 1 with pf and pistol, 9 with ccw and pistol, 4 neo with ccw and pistol.] 1 unit of 6[ 1 with missle launcher, 5 with bolter.]
and the EC. I should be able to skirmish with these guys to get a feel for game play. From here Im not sure, but i wanna gets some casualties before I add on. Thanks
