I am new to the scene and i am joining an escalation league from 300 points up. The rule is i can make 300 points anyway i want OR use the standard army box ~350. Can anyone give me advice on what i should have for a cygnar 300 point army? I will be getting new models so anything goes... THANKS!

Is this standard duel/MM rules (i.e. caster and jacks) or whatever you want?

If bog standard Duel rules:
Haley
Lancer (swap out for Defender @350)
Lancer
Hunter

Or just use the box set, frankly. It's cheaper, Stryker with a lancer and ironclad is pretty good at 350, and the charger isn't that much of a penalty at that points level...

it allows casters since the rule is if caster dies it is game over. Some people using hordes too.

Uh, I would assume it allows casters! Do you mean 'jack marshals?

If it's 'normal' 350 rules, that means Duel, which means only a warcaster/warlock and his/her warjacks/beasts. That would mean no Jr or longgunners.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the Sentinel. I guess with the changes in Prime: Remix it got more utility, but I think the Hunter is a better shot for your money. Heck, The Charger is a better shot, IMHO...

Battle College is a good place to start.

Basically, it's not as tough as a Charger, but has a high RAT, Advance Deploy, All-Terrain, and Extended Control (basically its caster has double his/her control range for the Hunter), and an armor-piercing gun (one shot only). In a Duel/mangled metal situation, where you're going to be dealing with a lot of warjacks/beasts and not a lot of troops for screening (at least until you hit 400, I'd reckon), this is a great 'jack to take for knocking out opponents sooner rather than later.

Then again, if you prefer the extra shot and don't mind applying a full 3 focus to 'er, use the Charger, but if you're going to do that, get the boxed set.

Quite frankly I'd stick with the regular boxed set for your beginning games. Stryker is a pretty well rounded Caster and you can't beat the price of the Battle Box.

Some people don't like the charger, but I took out a bone jack in 1 turn this weekend with just 2 focus.

Maybe it was luck, but I'm just starting out like you and the boxed set has done me fine so far. Give yourself a few games with the meat and potatos box that way you can figure out your personal play-style.
