Beast of Nurgle

Within the Warp

I have been struggling for some time trying to come up with a solid very viable Mixed Daemon list. I Go back and forth between 2DPs and a SG or 1DP,SG, 10 Horrors

Tell me what you guys think of this List;

HQ - 330
Blood Thirster - Stock
Herald of Nurgle - Palanquin, Nox Touch, Cloud of Flies

Elites - 315
3 Flamers of Tzeentch
3 Flamers of Tzeentch
3 Flamers of Tzeentch

Troops - 623
9 BloodLetters
9 Bloodletters
10 Plaguebearers - Icon
9 Plaguebearers -Icon

Heavy - 475
Soul Grinder - Phlegm
Daemon Prince - Mark of Nurgle, Nox Touch, Iron Hide, Cloud of Flies
Daemon Prince - Mark of Tzeentch, Daemonic Gaze, Bolt of Tzeentch

The alternate setup would be to send DP of Tzeentch back to the warp, and give DP of Nurgle the Gaze. Throw in a squad of Horrors of 10 horrors, or 8 Horrors and bump Letters back to 2 squads of 10.

The split would depend on who Im playing; but as a basic look would be
(A)
3 Flamers
3 Flamers
DP of Teentch
9PBs w/herald
SG
BT
(B)
3 Flamer
DP of Nurgle
9 Letters
9 Letters
10 PBs.

Thanks in advance; Please find loup holes.. Tourny at the end to month.

1 SG is not enough. He'll get punked by every lascannon, meltagun, autocannon, rail rifle, ordnance weapon, and real monstrous creature on the board.

Bloodthirster is a fantasy fig, not a 40k fig. At least not by himself, he can't handle it.

Bearers are decent. Letters are not (T4, 5+ save = dead).

That herald is a waste.

Those DP's are cute, but won't do anything.

If it's not built around a special character (in itself a weakness) or all 5 monstrous creatures (all built around CC not shooting) then you are going to lose and lose big.

Probably will lose big anyway, since fantasy demons in a 40k world = lolz.

The 1 SG I agree; However if they all focus firing him that would be fine. It will alleviate some attention to my other MCs. Playing with daemons.. you will have to get used to making sacrifices..

I agree the BT is questionable; some times he performs and sometimes he doesnt. If you use him bare and as support or crush tanks he is aiight.. but still questionable.

DP's are cute; are you Serious? DP of Nurgle is SICK!! He is T6 in most cases hitting on 3s and he will wound on 2s.. with reroll ignoring saves. Played Right he is a serious threat.

DP of Tzeentch.. Walking Weapons Platform, and can tango in h2h if needed.

Herald is a waste? Herald is like 80 points tooled up.. He make PBs almost unkillable.

PBs will screen the letters.. I wouldnt drop them in someones face.. Letters are by far the best H2H troops in the game.. 5 of them will wipe the floor with 8 termies.

Cool Thanks Though Stelek, responses like yours is exactly what Im looking for.

Holla Mau!

Well, I'd replace one pack of Letters by Horrors just in case you battle a horde army.

Well if you are looking for a moderately viable force. ie not a super powergaming tournament army then there are some things that can work.

Plaguebearers are good, they can take fire and hold up most basic CC units pretty well.

Flamers are both alright and bad at the same time. If you play KPs suicide squads like this will drop, may or may not kill the whole squad and get wiped out from fire. If you intend to employ a suicide unit, only bring one. Spamming suicide units is not a great idea.

Bloodletters can be ok but need to be used bigger squads. You come in piecemeal so you need to be able to ensure that what shows up has enough bodies to take a pounding before getting stuck in. Bolters scythe through them like a hot knife through butter.

Soulgrinders are solid but should definitely be take in multiples. 1 is ok against some armies, 2 is better, and 3 isn't a bad idea.

I have never used the Bloodthirster but my GDs seem to get taken out relatively easy but he could do alright.

I'm also not a big fan of your herald. I really think Nurgle has the worst Herald going. Anything that will munch your plaguebearers will be able to munch him as well. Its also important to note that enemies will probably engage everything else before they engage your plaguebearers unless they have a unit that will definitively pound them.

IIRC, in 40K the basic heralds don't really do anything to support their Troop squads. Given this, they're best off used as independent killing units, either through cc or shooting, or acting as fire sponges on chariots. The Nurgle herald is thus the weakest, as noxious touch isn't as useful on models that aren't MCs, and cloud of flies only effects units attacking him, not the squad.

Edit: also, given enough other targets, the Bloodthirster is I think one of the best GDs, especially as stock. 3+/4++, T6, and WS10 means basic troopers are struggling to wound him, and he has a good chance of surviving heavier firepower, especially if it's just the odd lascannon or two here and there. Making Marines hit on 5s is great, and really helps protect him from those evil powerfists and rending attacks.

I run a MC list and from my experience the BT is worth it. I also run 2 grinders a nurgle DP and a LoC. in some games the LoC worked better than the BT.

You have too many flamers and, as pointed out earlier, in KP missions those are easy points for your opponent. Heralds blow from my experience. Nurglings are the bomb, Haven't tried keeper yet but hope to give it a try soon.

Slaaneshi Heralds with H&R are really the only Heralds I favor.

They're quite cheap and damned annoying.

Thanks for all the responses; After doing some play testing yesterday, I agree I went alittle to much on the Nurgle side of things.. I'm guessing it just showing the pain of my Bloodletters shot through like some pissed on toliet tissue. I decided to tone down the nurgle quite a bit, and take in alot of you guys suggestions, because they are great.

Far as the BloodThirster; I seen him perform Extremely well, and I seen him get shot up when he landed, but over all I enjoy his company. So I always try to squeeze him in. Herald of Nurgle, much agreed Im balling his a$$ back to the warp. However, I am planning on replacing him with a Herald of Khorne w/Chariot. For 85 Points you get a stock DP minus 1 WS, but with the bonus of Iron Hide. I done a few games last night and he was pretty tough.

Flamers; Im toning them down too.. Im thinking something like 2 groups of 3 Flamers, and with the other elite Im going to squeeze in 3 crushers. What is you guys opinion on this? Check out the new list Im planning...

HQ:
BloodThrister - Unholy Might
Herald of Khorne - Chariot

Elites
3 Flamers of Tzeentch - Stock
3 Flamers of Tzeentch - Stock
3 Blood Crushers - Icon

Troops
13 Bloodletters - Stock
12 Bloodletters - Stock
9 Plaguebearers - Icon

Heavy
SoulGrinder - Phlegm
SoulGrinder - Phlegm
Daemon Prince - Mark of Nurgle, Instrument, Iron Hide, Cloud of flies, Noxious Touch

My logic on a few things
HQ:
BloodThister w/Unholy Might; I have been caught in situations I wish I could ID HQs, and I couldnt because they charged me or it was 2nd round of combat. In many cases this was between life or death with the thrister.
Elites
Flamers; You just cant deny their killing potential; Im willing to loose 105 points to kill a squad of 300+ termies on the drop.
Crushers; These dudes are VERY resiliant, and I wish I could afford more of them.
Troops:
I have no clue what I need to do in this department, Im torn every which way except sideways. I like Pink horrors, but they dont do much.. 30 shots from 10 horrors seem scary, but realistically I never seen them kill more then 3~4. Pleguebearers, one of my friends favors these guys. I never really got into them because of their killing power. Ok they can stay on the table, but what else after that? As you guys mentioned people will ignore the PBs; that combined with SnP.. You will be hard pressed to catch someone. I dislike Slaanesh, so I dont plan on going there.. Nothing wrong.. just my personal preference.
Fast:
Maybe I need to buy some hounds.. I hear they do decent job tying up troops until the letters get there.. you guys opinion? The thing that makes me hesitant is I have to drop something else, because of point limit.
Heavys:
Additional Soul Grinder sounds scary, and nice.. I will proxy stores defiler as one in todays game, and if it feels good.. Ill buy another one today. Question though, 2 Phlegms or 1 Phlegm and 1 Tongue?
DP of Nurgle I do like; He performs in most games.. or he is focus fired.. which is good in its self as well. Every Squad fires on him the close my Letters get.

Please Tear this one up too..

Thanks,
Mau
