Hello, I have only played Tau and therefore haven't been on the giving end of an assault. I am starting Space Marines and had a question.

I have a 5 man squad with a flamer. Can I shoot the flamer and still assault? Or, since there are rapid fire weapons in the unit and the unit 'counts as firing' they cannot assault?

Actually on top of that question, if one model shoots in a unit, does the entire unit count as shooting? (Like the one model moves/all move thing).

If at all possible please provide 'as written' rules and not 'as I want it to be' rules.

Thanks.

Your squad can fire the flamer and assault as it is an assault weapon, but if they fire any of the bolters they cannot assault as they are rapid fire weapons not assault ones.
