This seems clear to me, but I'd like to see if I'm missing something.

Black Templar loses a Marine from its' squad from enemy shooting and has to make a Morale test b/c of Righteous Zeal. They pass the test and have to make a consolidate move d6" towards the nearest enemy unit treated like a massacre (which does not exist in the new rulebook). I've got an opponent who insists if he gets close enough, he can get into assault with his Black Templars with the Righteous Zeal move.

The relevant rules that I can find so far are:

Righteous Zeal- BT codex
Consolidate= page 40 main rulebook
Massacre- no longer exists in 5th edition.

Consolidate specifically states you can not move into base to base contact with an enemy model, but does ignore difficult and dangerous terrain. From what I read, there is no way the Black Templars can get into assault b/c of Righteous Zeal. Is there a rule I'm missing? I just can't see how Righteous Zeal performs in the manner my opponent is claiming.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

He used to be able to do that in 4th ed. 5th ed it doesn't work that way any more.

Don Mondo's got it. You could indeed do it in 4th Edition, where you were allowed to consolidate into other units. You can't do that anymore.

Cannot zeal to combat anymore.

And no benefit from zealing to enemy...it's the opponent's turn.Why not to charge at the next own turn?

Thanks. I found the BT FAQ that even clarifies to ignore the term 'Massacre'. Looks pretty clear he can't do it.
