You could dump the ASS on one of the XV-88 squads and give two of that unit target locks. That should get you below 2500 and give the option to split your rail gun fire even more.

Railguns are really not a bad option as I am forseeing 2-3 landraiders in every marine and csm army. Aun'va may even have merit now with the stubborn rules. Playtest this list a whole lot and report back how it works.

Most definitely.
I played with Aun' Va on and off through 4th
I like how he plays in a larger game especially now when its hard to even kill that many fire warriors.
I've made some slight tweaks based on some thoughts I've had.

If only flamer style weapons off drop/infiltrate units weren't so prevalent.

If only hellhounds didn't exist.

If only everyone wasn't moving to torrent of fire armies.

If only Eldar S6 spam didn't exist.

Shield drones are cute but not really necessary.

I like how you built your army around stubborn.

With the removal of negative modifers for everything but close combat...gee, you sure paid a lot for a useless skill because Tau DIE in close combat, and you don't WANT the enemy stuck in close combat for two turns on full strength FW units because then you can't SHOOT THEM.

Unless you plan on 'tarpitting' with Tau FW.

Then I salute your awful list.

Meh, I salute it anyway, as awful as it is.

If only everyone played guard or sisters

If only 5th allowed players to know who is going first before deployment

If only S6 wounded T4 as easily as it wounds T3

If only fearless troops take wounds equals to the number they lost hand to hand by

If only that guarantees that I2 T3 units are wiped out by any assault unit

I have to agree with Stelek on this point. Immobile gun lines are practically dead in 5th edition with everything running around closer to you.
I don't see a lot of drop flamers in the games I play, but yeah, drop flamers could wreck any gun line force. (If your opponent says he has salamanders, pack your stuff and run).
You'll have to recheck the 5th edition rules on stubborn. It doesn't make you nearly fearless like 4th edition did. It removes any negative leadership modifiers, meaning you won't have to take any tests at Ld 2 in CC, meaning that your FW are gonna be in CC longer, preventing your gun line from opening fire into them and letting you worry about the guys fighting on your right as well as the guys running towards you from the front.

S6 wounds against t4 on a 2+, just like t3, i don't really get what you were trying to say here.

In response to Stelek, I like Shield drones because they are good for wound distribution with a leader with a retinue, letting you save five points for a 4+ save on your retinue (trust me, what I'm saying makes sense, at least to me. it works for me on the field, and saved me countless times).

I think what your gun line lacks is mobility. You use up the transports for Fish Of Fury, (which if what you said infers, means you aren't running it right). You should probably invest in some vespids for CC interception against big bad CC specialists, and that should give your gunline time to load up in the Devilfishes and reposition for rapid fire and extermination.

Otherwise, the plenty of pathfinders give you plenty of good targetting that combined with your broadsides can provide plenty of fire that can wreck anything thats too slow to get close.

How do you plan on using target lock under 5th ed?

Your packing your side of the board with a lot of guys and gives the enemy plenty of time to infiltrate.

With Target lock, you nominate your squads target, and the separately firing units target; then roll your LD.

Pass, you shoot what you want to.

Fail, everyone fires at the squads target.

That's how that works.

As far as shield drones, I meant...why take the drone at all? Just take a gun drone and use a 4+ cover save? Saves 5 points.
