Hey, here's a question about the Space Marine Battle Force:
Contents include-
15 Tactical Marines, 5 Scouts, 5 Assault Marines, 1 Rhino.

Would you say this is pretty universal as far as setting up a new chapter? Does this encompass all Chapters, not just the Vanilla ones (i.e. Ultra, Crimson Fists)?

So, if you wanted to make a Blood Angel list, is this a sensible start? Would it be better to include (without being too obvious) more assault marines instead of something?

This stuff is only for people who want to buy 2 kits, and have:

10 tactical marines they can make into devastators.
10 scouts.
10 assault marines.
2 rhinos with tacticals.

It's not universal, it's not really even a good buy unless you find an army that runs using that kind of force.

Seen any armies like this lately?

The BR box set on the other hand, offers good base units you can make armies out of for cheap.

You could I suppose buy like 6 of the battleforce boxed sets, for 6 rhinos, 90 tactical marines, 30 scouts, and 30 assault marines...why don't you just buy the megabox for 450$, and get about the same? Oh right, it's not really available and the price nowadays is 600$ (so you don't feel like you are getting scammed by the battle force set).

Sorry, it's just not a great deal.

If you want a foot army, buy the BR set.
If you want mech, buy the rhino + marine sets.
Want a assault army, buy jump pack sets.
Same with scouts.

Only if you want ALL of these in middling amounts for alot of money, should you buy these as starters from 'scratch'.

So, with that in mind, what would you recommend for the first, say, 500pts of Blood Angels? Id like to have it include a captain w/thunder hammer at some point, though it doesnt necessarily HAVE to be in the first 500pts. It can be heavy assault marines, or balanced....doesnt matter.

Also, by BR, are you saying Blood Ravens? I think I missed the reference somewhere....

Assault on Black Reach. The new Marines vs. Orks starter set coming out in September.

Blood Angels? Skip the box sets and go buy assault marines.
