Ok here goes,

Is Lord Commander Solar Macharius still a legal character in games of 40k?

http://uk.games-workshop.com/imperialguard/special-characters/1/

From the wording I am leaning toward YES, but at this point in time im unsure. I would like to possibly use him for the 'Ard Boys games, since automatically getting first turn with a 2500 pt IG Gunline would be pretty darn sweet. (thank you running! you make guard happy and mobile!)

I would say he is - I mean... he is still on their official website...

Please note - terms like 'always/never' are carried with the basic understanding that there are exceptions to the rule, and therefore are used to mean generally...

IIRC, the 'ard boys rules state codex, so therefore, no go. He's not in the codex, so you're out of luck.

"Presented here are the rules for two of the most famous characters of the Imperial Guard, to download and include in your games of Warhammer 40,000."

-Straight From The GW Website-

Seems pretty clear to me. And nowhere on the rules sheet does it say you cant use Special Characters from the Gw website that were leftout of the codex but are still officially supported and LEGAL. It does say that special characters are allowed.

Epicurean Pursuits

Explicit interpretation of the Ard Boyz rules leads me to believe that only special characters that are in the codecies are legitimate.

Under Army Selection, it says: "Special Characters are permitted, subject to the normal restrictions for that character in the Codex."

I'd either A) Ask the organizer what they have to say about it or baring that, bring 2 lists and the correct models to field either and find out when you get there.

More importantly here are the options you have to use to build your army:

Imperial Guard
• Codex Imperial Guard – Doctrines may be used.
If using a regiment with defined Doctrines in the
codex (e.g., Tallarns, Mordians), these Doctrines
must be used.
• Imperial Guard Armored Companies (White Dwarf
294) are permitted. The WD294 version is the only
allowed version. A copy of the list can be found on
the US web site.
• Imperial Guard may take Inquisitorial Allies
as defined in Codex Daemonhunters or
Codex Witchhunters.

If they had meant you to take this character, they would have specified that choice on this page, as they did for the AC.

Sorry, but Marcharius is not allowed.

Just because something is published on the GW website, doe not mean it is part of the official 40K game. Yes, you can download and use them, if you want. But that does not mean they are part of the actual game.

Its plain to me you didnt read the quote. It IS part of the game and is official and legal to use. But thats beside the point. My question has been answered.
