The washes are basically inks that have been thinned down with Matt medium. So, where you would normally thin down your inks, the washes are meant to be used straight from the bottle.

I haven't found them to be all that great, since I'd rather mix inks to the consistency I want, but they aren't terrible either. I think they were designed to compete with dipping minis with minwax, and as such, are designed for speed.

The new washes are thicker.
It makes them easier to put where you want as they
don't run like the inks do. They're aren't as dark either, maybe they have less pigment but you can build up layers once the previous is dry.

Also they don't dry with that "water ring" look when you apply them in a small amount or on a flat surface.
Which is fantastic. They look great on the model, very subtle and they dry Matt.

This is an important difference as they'll look unlike the previous inks on the model. If you liked the glossy effect just add on some paint on Gloss Varnish and your back in business.

I've been having a lot of fun with the new washes. But they are different form the old inks. Hope this helps.

Speaking of the matt effect the new washes have, I managed to create the most awesome metal ever by simply slapping Badab Black on metal paint, especially Boltgun Metal, plain or mixed with Chaos Black. I was really pleasantly surprised when it was done drying.

Love them. The inks where too messy for my taste and a bit too dark. These are more subtle and allow you to build a pigment up if need be.
