Both of these might be have been answered before, one I'm pretty sure has to have been brought up when Deamonhunters came out.

First; Codex: Assassins was never officially replaced. Is it still viable and legal to use the assassins as listed instead of the Deamonhunters listing.

Second; Artillery.
In 5th Edition there is a listing for "Artillery" that specifies artillery weapons and crews within other units. Does this apply to Imperial Guard heavy weapons? Granted, in Coded: Imperial Guard, heavy weapons are not identified as "artillery" in their rules sets, but as far as how the entry in the rule book describes Artillery, Imperial Guard heavy weapons teams fit the bill perfectly. The rule book describes Artillery units as having a crew; the IG Codex identifies heavy weapons teams as "crew", their weapons appear too large for an individual to handle/transport alone (the older models even had most of the weapons sitting on dollies), and the crew are seperate from the rest of the unit they are a part of.

For a while they did have a FAQ saying that the codex assassins was replaced by the DH/WH codexes, but at some point it becomes ridiculous to keep including that disclaimer.

We're talking about rules that have been out of print for what, nearly 10 years now?

As for artillery, the unit must contain gun models that have an AV. Only Eldar and Ork Heavy Support weapons currently fall into this category.

Just because anyone agrees with anyone, doesn't mean they are correct. Beware the thin line between what is "Correct" and what is "Popular."

On your first question. The assassins codex is no longer legal. If you wish to field an assassin you MUST take an inquisitor.

2ond Artillery is a unit type. The IG gun crews are not this unit type.

Thank's Yak. The Codex was heavily out of favor long before Deamonhunters came out, not long after that I sort of fell out of the loop and when I returned I asked around and everyone said "I suppose since it isn't in the FAQ, there isn't a disclaimer around, and no official Assassins replacement, I suppose it is still legit." I am paraphrasing there, almost always the response was "there was a time before the Deamonhunters codex?" or "Assassins had there own codex?"

I figured that was pretty much the case, but the Heavy Weapons crews fit in so well I didn't want to dismiss an obvious good thing. As far as AV, the Rule Book states that they are treated as having an AV of 10, not to refer to the codex of origin for such a description.

Perhaps when the next IG codex comes out they will specify that heavy weapons teams count as artillery units. Which should put some bang back into the Guard.
