wait wait wait wait... huh..?

It looks good.

One question though. Is target lock the one that lets you fire into combat? thats a great upgrade for tau

Target locks let you pass a LD test and fire at a separate unit if you pass, guys.

Crisis suits and burst cannon/missile pods put out alot of shots, but don't do it well. 18" is a very dangerous place for crisis suits to be for any length of time.

Devilfish (and hammerheads) should have disruption pods, not decoy launchers (since you cannot die when immobilized now as a devilfish). Targeting array is also good.

The pathfinders should just be markerlight support.

Skyrays need more missiles in your fleet to excel, but if you bring a skyray...not sure you really need pathfinders. Often as not, single lights on FW leaders are adequate support for a force with skyrays.

Fusion blaster is a suicide weapon. Use your AP10 72" range guns to knock out enemy tanks.

I think that about covers it. I wish others would help you out with this.

Thanks for the advice.

The crisis team with the Fusion Blasters is there for light tank / transport hunting or against heavily armored infantry. Pathfinders markers are there to help with the Target Priority tests and to help the tanks get easier hits. Appreciate the feedback in both threads Stelek

Pathfinder markerlights help with what? There are no more target priority tests, bud. I suppose they could help with units with target locks but I'm not sure if it's worded for that kind of interpretation.

I think Carbines are better in certain builds. What are you using these for?

Target Lock
This specialised target acquisition system enables the model to target a separate enemy unit to that engaged by the rest of its own unit. All firing in the unit must be declared before any to hit rolls are made. One Target Priority test is made for the unit - if pass all separate shots are taken; if failed, all shooting must be at the nearest target, as specified by the Target Priority Rule

Marker Light
Every counter expended grants the firing unit one of the following effects, which may be combined. To allow the firing unit to automatically pass a Target Priority test when shooting at the marked uni, declared before the test is made.

Straight from the codex.
Unfortunately I don't have 5th Ed book at my disposal at the moment.

And if I light up an enemy tank with a light it will up my BS allowing for an easier to hit roll. Also lights up units in cover and gives -1 to cover save which is cumulative. Can also help with pinning tests as it gives -1 to LD. All these are separate of course and must be chosen before the to hit roll occurs.

Pulse Carbines are good for the FWs in the Fish because they can pin the opponents unit and keep them at range from the more shooty units while hopefully picking up a kill or two in the process.

Target lock is just an outdated piece of the codex, as are so many things after a new edition comes out.

There is no more target priority test, as such, for that purpose they are useless, as you never have to take the test, so who cares if you pass it.

OTOH, the markerlights could be used in Night Fighting scenarios and the devilfish could help with deep striking a crisis unit. Not saying that is reason enough to take them. I'd drop the rail rifles for more markerlights to remove some of the cover saves your friend is sure to face.

I think 3 suit units with burst cannons is a bit much. Your friend will undoubtedly be within 18" of the enemy, but deathrains may help more, with all the transports available in 2500 point game, especially since there's only 2 railguns in the list.

edit: remove redundancy

This list looks pretty solid. The only real problem I see here is needing to take a ld test every crisis suit that dies. That makes things rough

Please note - terms like 'always/never' are carried with the basic understanding that there are exceptions to the rule, and therefore are used to mean generally...

OK.... um ... this is really embarrassing, and though it means that I can stomp o my friends tau even harder its kinda sad that the both of us misread it so badly... i well, back to elementary school for the both of us.

Target Lock
The target lock allows the suits wearer to target a separate enemy unit to that engaged by the rest of his own unit.

We only read: target.... enemy unit... engaged and our brains filled in

Target Lock
The target lock allows the suits wearer to be a jerkoff and fire his weapons into close combat, denying the enemy the only real advantage he had in the match making him hate the user forever and, on the off chance that the opponent won, causing him to run around shouting at the top of his lungs about the defects of the crisis suit's pilot's mothers

.... i guess thats an oopsie

You do indeed have to take the test.

Just like Black Templars do.

IIRC BT take the test because it tells you what to do in their codex (ld test at -1 in inorder to not shoot closest). The Tau codex does not explain how to take the Target Priority test at (no mention of LD, etc), so unlike BT they should be exempt from it.
