Hi all,

I am new to Warhammer 40k and have decided to play as Eldar. This my first attempt at a balanced 1000 point Eldar army. Comments and advice are more then welcomed.

HQ:
Farseer (120 points)
Doom
Guide
Spirit Stone

Elites:
(8x)Striking Scorpions (160 points)
Exarch w/ power claw
Stalker

(5x) Fire Dragons (92 points)
Exarch

Troops:
(10x) Guardians (135 points)
Warlock w/ conceal
Scatter Laser

(10x) Dire Avengers (152 points)
Exarch w/ dual catapults
Blade Storm

Heavy Support:
(3x) War Walkers (180 points)
All with Scatter Lasers

(1x)Falcon (160 points)
Cannon Upgrade
Shuriken Cannon
Sprit Stone
Vectored Engines

Total = 999

Since I haven’t even played a game yet I really don’t have a strategy formed. I was thinking the Farseer would go with the Dire Avengers and the Fire Dragons would go in the Falcon.

Thanks in advance for your help!

You don't really need a Concealing Warlock for the Guardians, the 4+ save you get for sitting in cover or being behind it is more than the 5+ Conceal save, and it's free. It's ok to put these Guardians behind cover and shoot through it depending on your target. A Space Marine is just going to take his armor save anyways, so no reason not to get your cover save against his fire if you have to shoot through something.

Your Fire Dragons don't need an Exarch, five Dragons do their job just fine without him. If you are wanting to take an Exarch, give him Crack Shot to shoot at big armored things in cover.

You will want to run the Farseer alongside your War Walkers, guiding their BS3 lasers will get you more kills than giving the Avengers Guide/Fortune. You can also Fortune your War Walkers if you keep them in/behind cover (like you should) to give them added survivability.

Yes, I did say Guide and Fortune because lasers don't need Doom at S6. You also might want to consider giving one or two of the Walkers a Bright Lance alongside the Lasers instead of double lasers, you're pretty low on anti-tank outside of your Dragons.

Having dual Shuriken Cannon upgrades doesn't really help your Falcon much since you can only fire one after moving more than 6", which you'll want to be doing to drop those Dragons where you need them.

Thanks for your comments Kirbinator . I was doubting whether the warlock was worth the points and I completely forgot about only being able to fire 1 weapon with the Falcon when it moves over 6". Can fortune work with the walkers? Does the obstructed vehicle roll count as a save roll?

Here is a re-worked list, I still have 33 points left. Enough for 2 more scorpions or would shadow strike be a better use of the points?

wait wait wait wait... huh..?

Um... While not an eldar player myself, I've played them once and those scorpions were the death of me... they soaked up way more fire than i should have thrown their way and the rest of my opponents army merrily killed my men. I still won, the eldar just didn't have enough low ap stuff aside from their AT stuff (and I don't usually use tanks or dreads). But it was close... too dam close

Looking ok.

I agree that you dont need doom as all your shooting is S6. remove the lances on that walker, or make them 2 seperate units, try not to mix weapons in squads, as it lowers overall effectiveness.

Keep the scatter laser config (or go for 2 EML on every walker for plasma missile death), put the walkers in cover and guide and fortune them. That is a huge pain for any opponent.

You can put an EML on the falcon, and still have it move 12", shoot the pulse laser, fire a plasma missile and fire the TL shuricats. Best option, imho, the scatter is a waste.

Otherwise, pretty good!

The strongest quality of a Falcon is the Holo Field. You don't need the Vectored Engines and Spirit Stones so much on the Falcon with Holo Fields, even if it is transporting the Dragons. In my opinion, you could drop the Spirit Stones and Vectored Engines to get the Holo Fields.

With the other points, I would buy Shadowstrike for the Scorpions, and if you have 17 points, you could buy an Exarch with a Dragon's Breath Flamer and Crack Shot--you won't miss the extra Fusion Gun shot all that much, but you gain a S5 AP4 Flamer Template weapon that gets re-rolls to wound... yikes!

Catch me if you can.

Well, I'm an Eldar player.
The Falcon is fine but I would never play it in this way: stones, holofield, shuricannon x2. Stones are mandatory.
Drop the FD Exarch. Six FDs get the job (popping a tank) done.
The Farseer should guide the Guardians, join the DAs and fortune the DAs.

Dropped the FD Exarch to add Stones to the Falcon. I kept the EML because you can still shoot it if you move the Falcon more 6". You wouldn't be able to shoot the cannons because they have STR 6.

wuesten, your falcon loadout was the dogs until 5th, then the 2x shurican became redundant.

Id say stones are neccessary on the falcon, as with the holos its going to be stunned a lot more, as its primary role is to unload the dragons in your opponents face - you need to be able to move all the time.

The current loadout is my favoured one at the moment, combining good offence and durability, and when it unloads the dragons, it can cruise at 6" and put 3x S8 shots into a MEQ unit/tank, whic h is nothing to be sniffed at.

My initial eldar 1l pts looked like yours, but I ran harlies instead of scorps, and some spiders.

I ran my seer in the falcon with 5 dragons, worked a treat. If youre using 4dragons with exarch with flamer, make sure the dragons are guided; I always had bad luck with to hit rolls (all 5 missed once...) - you want to nuke whatever they hit, as i theres anything left alive, the dragons are toast. A spear may be good for the seer too, to add another BS5 S9 anti tank shot to the squad.

Otherwise, looking pretty good!

Right. But I still run this loadout when I use the Falcon as a gunboat.

5x) Fire Dragons (84 points)

80 pts only.

I'd let the Farseer join the Guardians or the DAs. The Fire Dragons riding in a Falcon are usually one-hit wonders. If you let the Farseer join the FDs, give him a singing spear.

Once again thanks to everyone for your comments. I can't wait to start playing and try the diffrent army combinations.

Thanks for pointing out the miss calculation on the FD's. With the extra 8 points should i just go ahead and give the Farseer the spear?

hould i just go ahead and give the Farseer the spear?

Yes, please. The Farseer is always in a defensive position and then the spear is very handy if a tank comes close.

Another good unit choice, you dont need both exarch powers if you want to cut down on points

danp84 wrote:

A small compact squad, tho they are alittle open to being shot to pieces, be careful of where they are and where you are going to move them

danp84 wrote:

Nice, flexible and cheap unit here

danp84 wrote:

A good unit, how ever may come under some fire if out in the open, again be careful of where they are and where they are going

danp84 wrote:

A good anti horde unit there witha long high rate of fire gun, keep them, they come in handy alot

Im sorry to be mean to such a lovely tank, but it must go, it stands out like a warboss in a mob of gretchen, and will suffer for it.
maybe replace it with BL war walkers or a unit of 3 dark reapers and fast shot exarch with EML? save on points and keep with the foot slogging theme, or even viper will do here, as they are cheap and yet mobile
