So, I found some nifty tank models that I am going to use as rhino chassis. I have 4 of them. I want ti use them but I am not sure what would be the best way to go. Rhinos are cheap and have better transport capacity... but transport capacity is a little less important now that we can all run. Razors ar emore spendy but come with guns and less transport capacity.
So, I guess I am asking if transport capacity really matters? And are the extra razor points worth it?

I always thought that a unit in 40k should do something and do it well. It's less confusing that way. This may make me sound like an idiot, but making a squad, tank, hero, whatever, able to take on all comers usually takes up more points, at the expense of doing what it was originally intended to do, well. So a CC squad should NOT have heavy weapons, because then your tempted to use them when you should be moving towards your next target. The same goes for transports imho.
This, of course, all depends on squad size, number of tanks, and whether or not the new rules for tanks lets you move 12' and fire (i have no idea I've been hearing some weird stuff)
If you have 5-6 man squads, and you can move 12 and shoot, go for it. But if not I would think that the extra points would be better spent elsewhere. Unless you plan on using your razor backs as impromtu mobile weapons platforms ( it could work.... maybe).

Having a unit do one thing and do one thing well is a good idea if you have both a back-up unit to do that thing as well, and complementary units to do what it can't do. I call these things, respectively, redundancy and complementarity.
If what that unit does is support other units, either directly through stuff like Psychic Powers (Guide, Eldritch Storm) or Wargear (Kustom Force Field), or indirectly through stuff like Psychic Powers (Lash of Submission, Doom), then it's especially important to dual-purpose it so that it can also either back-up or complement other units when attrition requires it to act directly.
A Razorback is handy if you want a squad to be constantly on the move, moving around at a constant 6" to apply firepower. In particular, the Razorback's Heavy Weapons can target independently of the squad's weapons, so that configuration allows you to engage more enemy units (good if you''re outnumbered, unit-wise), and a mixture of enemy units - infantry and tanks.
A Rhino is handy if you want to zip a full squad around at 12" to concentrate fire on tough units, or it you're planning on standing still and using that Rhino as a mobile bunker or cover.
I think a combination of Rhinos and Razorbacks is best, on a 1:1 basis, so that the Razorback squads can keep continual pressure on enemy units, and the Rhinos can rapidly redeploy where they're needed.

good point, and I think that nurglitch is absolutely correct about that. The 1:1 ratio also lets you keep your opponents off balance. It will be important to make sure you have a strategy prepared for when your razors and rhinos start becoming slag. (sorry that was kind of obvious wasn't it?)

Pestilent Plague Marine with Blight Grenade

With the ability to split into Combat Squads, Marines with a Razorback can split into an Assault weapon- and Sergeant-based group, and a Heavy weapon-based group.
The Razorback brings the assaulty half of the unit forward, and the shooty half of the unit hangs back.

Razorbacks are like little light tanks. The transport function is secondary to the mobile, twin-linked heavy weapon aspect. My Kriegmarines would typically run 4-7 razorbacks, with the squads they transport on the other side of the board, moving in on the objective. The Razors would flank the enemy, and concentrate a lot of heavy bolters on venerable units. You couldn't ignore them like Rhinos, but every shot into them was a shot better put on the marines taking the objectives.

but if someone has something like attack bikes with multimeltas. then that entire formation is gone, and they only used a squad and a few at weapons to do it. I think that flanking with only rhinos is a risky play. One that could cost you a lot of points for relatively little gain. Put some jump infantry in front of those... have those guys jump from cover to cover, then I think you've got yourself a winner, and their forced to contend with a force that can not only soften up, but take targets down on their flank.

Thanks for the input. I am certainly going to be using combat squads in case of razors... The best of both worlds!
A lot depends on what options we will be given as to what I can arm a razor with and the points costs. If i do go with razors I will back them up with special weapons combat squads and jump infantry. Thye would ten dto be ahammer to my gun line's anvil...so to speak. Wow that was pretty cheese!
Heck, if I have enough fun with the armore I may just go Mech! That'd be neat!
