As a death skulls (ork) player, I try to loot gubbins whenever I can. Now that I'm working on a dreadbash, I've taken care of the dreads (Lol, AoBR), but I need 9 kanz, and I'd like them to be different. So i'm looking to you, fellow hobbyists, to tell me what you think can/cannot fly as a kan. Right now I'm looking at:

Sentinels
War Walkers
Standard kan ( )
Possibly something decently large in the tyranid family to give brain implants (My army IS led by two big meks after all; i'm sure one of em could build somefink to make dem bugs more like squigs). No idea why but I keep thinking lictors and tyranid warriors
Broadside Battlesuits
Tau commander suit
Wraithlord

Obviously I don't have any of these things yet, so I'm wondering what, with some orkish gubbins and rivets, would you allow as a 'looted' thingie to be a killa kan. Similarly, as I have no deff dreads, would space marine dreads be large enough to count as deff dreads (they look a bit bigger than the killa kan I've already bought, but idk if its bigger enough lol). Thanks in advance gents!

I'd say to let your immagination (and modelling choppa) go wild on most IG and SM specimens, CSM too maybe, but I'm thinking an all-out thumbs down with Eldar and Tau. Mainly because the Eldar break easy, their vehicles is too puny for da boyz, and Tau battlesuits are very smooth and proper looking, as well as being improperly sized for orks (just look at the ankles!). I can however see the battlesuit being fixed up with bullet holes, gouges, and extra plating to make it more asymmetrical and orky, but I can see no hope for a wraithlord. As for Tyranids, I don't even want to think about that. Not only because I would hate to see a warboss riding a carnifex into my flank, but because of the idea behind it. Scary. Everything else looks to be fair game to me though. I however would not just focus on other walker units, but tanks as well. They's shooty an' tuff an' got da good bitz.

Here's George Dellapina's Kanz, which I've always liked.

Old toy would admittedly be best, but I'm looking to build em for ard boyz, meaning they have to have started life as a citadel mini. Damn shame too because i've got some old action figures that would be perfect...

As for Eldar/tau stuff, keep in mind i'm making killa kans. Which means grots not boyz (definetly too weedy for boyz dat panzee stuff, but it might be right fer da grots). And that was a typo on wraithlord I had a brain fart; i was thinking war walker, which looks a lot like a sentinel (sentinels, frankly, being THE perfect thing to loot, especially catachan sentinels).

I'm most curious about, size-wise, nids. Eldar/Tau/IG stuff it pretty common where I am, so I can make a lot of sense about what's about the right size. Nids, oddly enough, are not (we only have one nid player and its nidzilla, so i've never seen anything else). If someone could tell me what would be about the size of a killa kan that would be ace (I know a tyrant or a fex would make a great dread, though I'm loaded up there unless someone can sell me on 3 dreads 6 kans).

And I was thinking speaker cable instead of guitar strings- about 18 gauge. think that might be too big?

I was considering terminators, as I have a pile of old plastic ones - fluffwise, the meks have looted wrecked terminator armour, found it unsuitable for the ork physique, and so turned it into orky exoskeletons piloted by grots, i.e. 'counts as' kanz. The legs would be used as is, the arms replaced by orky weapons, and the torso modified to form a grot cockpit.

Too silly?

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

For the close combat weapon loot a trukk wrecker ball or two, these should look real good if you play with the chains a bit so the wreckers are swinging around. Mount the kans waddling forward, on one leg the other aloft and moving forward, with the kan leaning heavily in the opposite direction. that and the whirling chains will make your kans extra cool looking.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

Terminators are no way big enough to be Kanz, sorry.

Kanz are warboss size or thereabouts, probably bigger, Dreads are even bigger.

I'm in the process of making some that are based on oil drums from the barricades sprue, with legs and weapon arms ripped from mechwarrior: Dark age mechs. Those forestry mechs with the chainsaws. They're both brutal and comically un-graceful looking.

I'm still completing my Star Wars kans. They're made from craptacular Star Wars heads (I've got Darth Vader and C3-P0 done so far) and seem to be crowd pleasers.

Use the Pegasus Chemical Plant set to make a kan - the parts in this set might be more suited to make a dread but i'm sure you could make it work.

The Pegasus Chemical plant set is a must for any Ork player who likes to make Big Mek creations. It's got all sort of pipes and such and you can make some holding tanks that look like boilers.

I made a Speed Freakz army a while ago and this is how I repped a Mek with Dethkopta and forcefield. In my next incarnation of Orks it will be used as a killa kan. So it is possible, and entirely Orky, to use Tau. Enjoy

I'll answer that; ork dreads have to have 4 weapons- the slugga and choppa can pass for the two mandatory dreadnought CCW, and the other two are clearly a big shoota and a skorcha (why a BS on an ORK dread is beyond me, but to each their own)

havent readthe ork dex, but is it possible to make a pure combat dread or kan?
so no shootyness, just stompyness.

also, the Sisters penitant engine might work well, just make the ork a chair ad maybe a cockpit.

You can take a dread with 4CCWs for pure stomptasticness.

What about the old screw-top Citadel paint pots (or the newer flip tops)? I'm sure you've got a couple of dried out ones you haven't tossed/recycled. They might make a great base for kans.
