Master Sergeant

I have only played Tyranid a little and played a game the other day and an issue came up with a carnifex being out of synapse range. With their high leadership I made the role (since they are not synapse creatures) and things continued but I thought there was something about carnifexes not needing synapse but I could find nothing in the Tyranid codex or 5th ed rules. Are carnifex subject to synapse like gaunts just with a better chance of making a successful leadership roll?

Fearless units no longer need to test for IB, as per the FAQ.
Basically Fearless = Brood telepathy.

nope, the fex is fine on his own, no need to be in range

Yeah, if you read the current FAQ on the games-workshop website, it states specifically that if a Tyranid is fearless then it ignores the instinctive behavior rule.

Just know that it wasn't that way before the 5ed FAQ update, so you may run into someone who is unaware of the change.

Iorek: "Snoogums, you're right. Your arguments are irrelevant, and they sure as heck aren't going away." |

And... they still benefit from synapse in other ways. Like no Instant Death.

I don't have my codex on hand so I can't give the number, but 'Fex toughness is above 5, so there's no weapon that can ID them in a standard game anyway.

Even Synapse only makes Tyranids immune to instant death effects for double-their-toughness wounds.

Synapse provide immunity to the Instant Death rule in general according to the 5th ed FAQ.
