Well this is my first time doing a battle report so Ill try to do my best. I played three games in our local league today to try and get my "sea" legs while running my most recent army the Dark Elves. Here is what i ran in game one at 500 points using the warband rules.
1 Assassin: ex-hw, rending stars, Runes of Khaine 151 points
10 Corsairs, reaver 2 HCB, full command, HCB 128 points
15 spearmen full command, 120 points
5 shades, blood shade, ex-hw, 103 points
HE list dont know all the details
5 silver helms, champion
10 archers
15 spearmen
1 repeater bolthrower

We were playing on a 4'by4' area with 4 pieaces of terrain 2/side. He won the Iniative roll off so he had first go. I deployed both my corsairs and my assasin, hidden of course in the corsairs, in the center faceing the cilver helms to line up against them. My spearmen were on their right faceing the archers and my shades were placed behind a forset to shoot the archers and bolt thrower. His units were staggered with his archers 10 abreast on my right flank at a angle. Silver helms on my left angled towards my corsairs, exactly what i wanted, and the spearmen staggered behind them.

He 1st marched his silver helms toward my corsairs and marched his spearmen to face mine. He then proceeded to reform his archers to face my shades and pivoted the bolt thrower toward them as well. He had no magic so next we went to shooting. Well i was withing short range of his archers and he only needed 5's to hit, -1 for moving and another-1 for shades be skirmishers. I was thinking to myself well maybe he'll only get 2 hits and 1 wound so ill be fine. WRONG he rolled 4 6's, mind you this HE player is not reknowned for his awsome dice rolls when it comes to shooting in WFB, He managed to kill three shades!! Then the bolt thrower shot hiting only once and killing one more. Luckily my blood shade made his panic test but 1 shade shooting wasnt going to be all that effective.

My movement I moved my corsairs to within 8" of the silver helms to help provoke a charge and marched my spearmen towards his for what i knew was going to be a all out brawl. My lone shade moved into the woods to the flank of the archers and shoot twice hitting both times but only manged to score 1 kill. I would have shot with my corsairs but i had marched so no shooting there.

His turn very predicatable he charged, at this time i revealed my assassin and used his rending stars all hit and all wounded!! he managed to lose 2, then came the HCB 10 shots 6 of which hit and 4 of those wounded. He saved everyone. He didnt get any shots off all he did was turn his archers toward my spearmen. Later he said he forgot. Then for combat, seeing how my assassin also has ASF and has int 9 he went 1st to awsome effect. rolled a 5 for my ruins of kahine giving him 7 attacks, all hit thank you hatred and 4 wounded which he saved 2. His champion then managed to kill a corsair and tried to make a very difficult LD test but failed and ran. The slaver rule saved me on this one he had rolled a 1 and 2 plus a 6 so i had him reroll the 6 and it became a four for a total of 7" running. I rolled 11 and ran them charging into the HE spearmen!!

My turn again i started marching my spearmen towards his archers. My corsairs were locked in combat with the HE spearmen and my shade stayed put and put 2 more shots into the archers managing to kill another one. Now this is where things went really bad for the dice gods decided it was a good idea to frown upon me. I rolled a 1 with my assassin for runes of Khaine no big deal they were puny spearmen and i hated them all!! The hatred was not in the assasins heart in that fight!! He only slew 2 spearmen. Then came the insanity of it all his 13 remaining attacks shreded the corsairs killing 7, coulndt make a save to save anybodies life!! I failed my leadership baddddd and ran. He failed horribly to run me down moving a mesley 3"

His turn again he declared a charge and came up a 1" short phew. His bolt thrower and his archers lit into my spearmen killing a combined total of 4 causing a panic test which i passed. That was pretty much for me.

Now this part we kinda guessed at, i wanted to break away my assassin from the last fleeing corsair and seeing how he is not the leader of the group we agreed as long as he made his leadership test he could stop fleeing which he did and so he did. I removed the corsair because he ran off the table. I declared a charge with my spearmen on the bolt thrower and came up short, yeah another turn of being elven pin cushions!! I shot again with my shade and manged to kill another archer, slowly but surely boyo slowly but surely.

His turn spelled final doom for me. He charged my assasin and i stood and shot killing two. he shot the brakeshoes off my spearmen killing 5 more and i failed my leadership and they ran like scoulded dogs!! I struck 1st again with my assassin and manged to knock off 3 spearmen but lost due to CR and failed another leadership and ran off the table. This is was it for me and decided it was game and it belonged to him.

I played two more games today as well and won both of those. USE BLACK GUARD!! Those guys made mince meat out of my other two oppenants one Bret and a Skaven player. Shades do nothing but die although they did have some luck against the skaven but if lots of shots come their way they go by by quick.

in such small battles its very important to keep your
forces on the table lol.

For future reference, characters and the like can't rally if they're in a unit fleeing after suffering 75% casaulties.. I know this one because there was a skaven battle report where a grey seer had to stick with his fleeing clanrats until the opposing side decided to fire another volley at the unit for giggles and ended up eliminating all of the unit except for the grey seer, who then rallied.

AHHHH but remember the catch Hidden in unit and not a leader, so if he's fleeing with a unit why does he care to keep running with them?? Also he's not technically a charcter because he doesnt take any hero or lord slot. But ur probaly right.

The not caring part could be said about any character.. But technically, there's no rules saying you can and WHFB (and 40k for that matter) rulings tend to side against anything that doesn't have a rule saying it can. So, just saying "it doesn't say I can't" doesn't really hold up.. Right now, it's a loophole, the same sort of thing pops up every time a new army book comes out. Hopefully it'll get faq'ed.. I'd argue you at least into a dice off over it, if/when it happens while we play.

U are right it does need a quick fix. Next time around he dies with the unit. The stupid thing is he is LD 10 which doesnt benefit the unit so if he's running with a unit with 25 percent of it str left he'll never ralley unless someone is dumb enough to shoot and kill everyone else in the unit.

Hell, even then the shots get randomized between him and the unit when the unit's reduced to 5 or fewer models. So, they'd have to be dumb enough to fire on the unit and unlucky enough to kill everyone BUT him..

U are allowed 1 hero maxed out to 150 points, Mind you Assassins take a core slot now not hero or lord so cheese is in mind for small games.
