Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

Here's one.

414 points buys 18 Plague Marines (no wargear) or 14 Possessed with an IoN. Both are Fearless.

The Plague Marines are S4 T5 3+ FNP w/ bolters and bolt pistols. They have the option for carrying a couple special weapons so you can do some damage at 18".

The Possessed are S5 T5 3+/5++ and get a special power. Either Scout or Fleet (movement) or Power Weapons, Rending, Furious Charge or FNP.

The question is, are the Possessed any good, say taking one large squad. Note that plasma weapons including Plasma Cannons ignore FNP now. I am thinking more forward assault than sitting in cover someplace.

I would say: maybe? They give cover to anything behind them.

Well, never really thought about taking Possessed in my Slaaneshi force.
My measures for taking a non-scoring unit are whether it can be used as spearhead for an assault or can clear and contest an objective.
Termies are very good in these roles.

Possessed die just like normal marines. T5 doesn't hurt, but it's FNP that makes the difference in 5th edition.

Until they aren't random, I'd never buy nor field possessed units in a competitive army.

possessed are a bad assault unit. they dont have any shooting and they die like a marine to most shooting. losing 26pt models to bolder fire isnt nice i can tell you.

plague marines are a lot harder to kill. its so hard to kill them with small arms fire, and while they are slightly more vulnerable to AP1 and 2 in 5th, you should be keeping them in cover anyway. plague marines in rhinos with either meltas or flamers make passable forward units, but they are more geared towards objective and centre control. if you want forward assault units, take some raptors (that are a lot faster) or terminators (that are harder and better at killing stuff).

possessed are to random and far to overpriced to make them good. shame really.

If we were to play each other in a tournament, not only would I table you, I would murder you, your family, every woman you ever loved and burn down your house. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live?

I rarely play chaos but when i do i take the time to go out of my way to feild a large unit of possessed and find they work to great success as long as you draw fire away from them. i have found once they hit an already progressive assault they trip the balance by alot and win it very easily and also just launching an assault with them is great. I usually hide them behind a land raider with my lord with a few termis

Hmm, pity. I was thinking they would be cool in a Warband for a Nugle Demon Prince.

Daemon Prince of Nurgle
Wings, Mark of Nurgle, Nurgle's Rot

1x 14x Possessed
IoN (T5), Champ

3x 7x Plague Marines
2x Plasmaguns

2x 5x Raptors
2x Meltaguns

2x Vindicator
Daemonic Possession

1x 2x Obliterators

// 1842

Possessed Charge forward, giving a cover save; everything else is tactical.

Better to just stick with Terminators, even if they would be cool.

Here's another one.

Daemon Prince of Nurgle
Wings, Mark of Nurgle, Nurgle's Rot

1x 14x Possessed
IoN (T5), Champ

2x 3x Terminators
3x Combi-Melta, 1x Chainfist

3x 7x Plague Marines
2x Plasmaguns

1x 7x Raptors
2x Meltaguns

2x 2x Obliterators

// 1862

I can lose a Raptor or change some Wargear. Or lose the Possessed Champ.

Anyway if I want to play around with them, maybe it is best to just take a small squad with no upgrades (except maybe a Rhino) and see what happens.

Possesed is the junk unit in the chaos book, expensive and with random abilites, you really should try to stay away from them.

I only ever used them in the last edition of the codex, when you could pay for the exact gift you wanted. Sure, it could get expensive, but they never let me down... In short, they screwed the possessed, much like the rest of the book
