When I fire Assault cannon at monolith........What am I looking at? str 6 + d6, and if 6 rolled another d3 OR just str 6 + d6?
Don't have Necron 'dex in front of me.

Str 6 plus d6 only. No AP bonus of any type against monoliths...

Thank you, sir.
I will have to switch some weapons around to get RW/DW some help in game vs the Necrons later.

Wait. Is that actually correct? If I remember correctly, monoliths didn't effect AP in V4. What changes in V5?

AP of the weapon? No, but you only get one additional die to check for amour penetration, thus the amour penetration of the assault cannon is 6+D6.
Gotta love that living metal!

So AP1 bonus in the new chart is still relevant.

Yes, I'd say the AP1 bonus to the chart is used. Don't have the Necron codex in front of me, but I believe that 'living metal' affects the armor penetration of weapons. No bonuses to the Apen from skills like tankhunter, and never an extra dice from things like melta weapons.

Yes. The AP1 bonus is applied directly to the damage chart result.

Rending in 5th ed is only ap2 so your assault cannon is back to 6 + d6.

So in short. Don't shoot your assault cannons at a Monolith. Rumor has it that it tickles.

Actually, RAW wise I believe that Tank Hunter Skill is legal now since the recent revision of Necron FAQ.
In the Necron codex pg 21 the following are not allowed: "Attacks which count the targets Armour Value as being less than it really is (such as bright lances and blasters) do not do so...Similarily, weapons that get additional attack Armour Penetration dice...do not get the dice...".
Tank Hunters pg 76 reads: "They add +1 to their armour pentration roll whenever they hit a vehicle."
There is no longer a Necron FAQ on this issue.
RAW wise the Tank Hunter skill neither adds dice nor reduces the Monolith's AV...no more so then a PF reduces the Monolith's AV. It is a bonus to the armour pentration roll not a subtraction to the monoliths AV as is the case of a bright lance which is prohibbited by the codex.

what about a dread close combat weapon..... It says 2d6 armor pin... not 1 d6 plus another d6. So if 2d6 is the base damage of the weapon, does it get both?

Heah Conrad,
Sorry, but no. In the case of the dread, chainfist, MC you are rolling 2d6 which is an extra dice that deviates from the standard rule of armour penetaration is str + 1d6. The monliths rules specifically prevent you from rolling extra dice.
