When rolling dangerous terrain do you roll model by model or the entire unit.
The rule says for each model roll a die...
Can this pick out special models? Chars? or do you get to roll them all and assign as per the wounding rules.

Very interesting question. I would say that whoever fails the check takes the wound, as it does say "On the roll of a 1, the model suffers a wound", not "the unit suffers a wound".

Moz:
You: "Hold on, you rammed, that's not a tank shock"
Me: "Ok so what is a ram, lets look at the rules."
Rulebook: "A ram is a special kind of tank shock"
You: "So it's a tank shock until it hits a vehicle, and then it's a ram, not a tank shock, and then it goes back to being a tank shock later!"
Me: "Yeah it doesn't really say any of that in here, how about we just play by what's written in here?" |

The RAW says to do it model by model. That being said, I don't think anyone would think twice about doing it the same way you do saves for shooting or hand to hand. ie. Roll a pile of dice for each group of similarly armed guys you have in the unit and then remove casualties.

I am pretty sure that independent characters are allowed to reroll failed Dangerous terrain checks if they roll a won.
So you would do it for every unit and if the Independent character fails twice he was destine to die.
Pretty sure on this I remember it under the Independent character rule.. or maybe deepstrike.
Double check it and sorry if I am wrong.
I am in class so I can't.

Independent characters get the "move though cover" universal special rule. This allows them to roll one extra die when determining how far they go though difficult terrain. I'm not certain it gives a re-roll on dangerous terrain (but it might). In either case, if the character is with a unit that doesn't have "move though cover" I think he loses the ability (worth checking to make sure though). And if you're in class, shouldn't you be paying attention rather than posting on message boards

They get "Skilled Rider" which lets them reroll dangerous terrain tests.

They get to reroll dangerous terrain tests IFF they are on a bike or count as calvary...
Dont get squat if they are a jump pack or walking through a wreck.
That being said I think it is interesting that this edition individuals take the hits as opposed to the squad taking it and them drooping the weakest link. Goes with the new torrent rules though. Good stuff to know.

skilled riders can re-roll dangerous terrain only if they are actually on a bike. But yes you would go throught the entire squad and roll each model seperatly (you can roll all the models who are the same together, i.e 7 bolters together, 2 plasmas together) and in case it comes up you get no save what soever from a failed DT test. Its always been this way for dangerous terrain tests, billybob the seargent cant break an ankle and half joe the bolter boy take the hit for him.

It was like that in 4th edition, (page 17, dangerous terrain tests) which stated no saves possible. In 5th edition however, (page 14, dangerous terrain) specifically says no armour or cover saves are allowed, so units with invulnerable saves can still take them.
