Just got my copy of the 5ed rules (finally!), and was surprised at the portion regarding passengers firing from vehicles. It says passengers can't shoot from vehicles moving at "cruising" speed. I was hoping to see an exception for fast vehicles, allowing my DE to fire from their raiders, but the only exception I can find specifies that the vehicle can fire its weapons differently than non-fast vehicles, but nothing regarding passengers. Am I missing something, is this how everyone plays it, or what?

Also, if I read correctly, passengers on a shaken/stunned vehicle can't fire from the vehicle, but from the wording, it would appear you can just dismount a fire as normal? Again, just seems a bit odd, so I wanted to double check that I'm not missing something.

Yup, I came across that as well for my Orks. Kinda sucks, I'm 99% sure that it is an oversite, but as of right now thats the rules. Funny that you can just disembark and shoot, but can't stay on board to do so..

That is 'working as intended' from the answers I've gotten from various GW sources.

It makes Dark Eldar cry.

It definitely makes gunboat tactics for DE harder. But, you can get off and shoot away, or assault!

I don't really get it why that is a balancing factor, but that is what is written.

Sigh...that's what I was afraid of. Thanks for the quick responses.

fast vehicles can move at cruising speed and fire as if they moved at combat speed (1 main and all def.)

Passengers can fire out of a vehicle if it moved at combat speed or less, the difference between open topped and a enclosed vehicle is that in an enclosed vehicle, you can only shoot out of fire points. In an open topped everyone can shoot. You also measure from the hull not the crew compartment. Being that most of the time there is a 2-3" seperation form the crew and the front of the veh. this helps.

also if you are open topped/fast you can (providing you have assault weapons) move 12" disembark 2" move 6" fire your assault weapons and if in range charge.

All of this is pretty much limited to dark eldar and orks as they have the only fast open topped vehicles, Jayden your orks can stay boarded (tank hunters/flashgits/burnas) anyone with a assault weapon or non-heavy but pretty much all ork weapons are assault, can stay in the truck move 6" and fire. hope this helps.

Yeah, but I can't go 12" and get off 24" Rokkits. Or go 12" and get off 24 shoota shots.

That extra 6" is very important for a lot of things.
