The Hammer of Witches
A new day, a new time zone.

My 'nids had to go into storage a while back, but I've been keen to get them back out. I still have one Tyrant to put together, and wondered what peoples' thoughts on Tyrant use in 5th edition are? I already have one flying dual ST, and one dakka tyrant. I'm pondering on how a TL Deathspitters and Barbed Strangler Tyrant might work on the table.

As with everything in this edition... you have to ask: "Would I be better off running?" You already have your Flyrant...You already have the devourer... I suggest a second devourer tyrant as they rock so much.

I've been pondering the Tyrant in 5ed as well. My beef with using a strangler on a Tyrant is the heavy1. Seems like a waste to not take advantage of the base 3 attacks and use venom cannon and/or devourers.
I think it also kinda depends on the build. Are you needing to advance the tyrant with the rest of the army (eg synapse for units like hormagaunts or screening ninja fexes) or are you holding back and keeping an objective (WoN gaunts). That would dictate the loadout much more (devourer or assault versus VCs, stranglers, etc).

I have found that Warp Blast works better than Barbed Strangler on a Tyrant.

If you want a third experimental Tyrant i would take lash whip and bone sword. It is obvious frommcontext that youn want something different. These are the only optionms you cannot duplicate elsewhere, it looks good too. back it up with scytalons and warp blast, or a venom cannon.
You get a classic looking tyrant and a decent ranged attack from it too.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

I agree with winterman, it depends on the rest of your "next army's build. Planning on running a bunch of running ninja fex, then I would go with Orlanth's suggestion and have a Tyrant with bonesword and lashwhip plus scything talons... guns aren't as optimal as you will be running untill you close the assault distance. If you did want a gun, then the TL-devourer would be my choice. If you are trying to create a pie plate army, then I would suggest the BS and VC option as thier range complements each other and at 3 shots, the VC isn't much worse than the deathspitter against troops and gives you a little more AT versatility.

Magnetizing your Tyrant is probably the best option. That way you can change the weapons to suit the situation.
In 4th I gave my walking tyrant a venom cannon and devourers but this isn't all that great in 5th edition with the changes to the vehicle damage table. Str 8 Venom cannon and str 5 devourers don't do much damage against even light tanks.
Currently trying Venom cannon and twin linked death spiters. Might end up going with a barb strangler for more pie plates against hordes.
