First let me say that though I frequent other message boards related to D&D, I don't read this one that often (anymore, see below) so if this post is in the wrong forum please move it with my apologies.
Now...my story.
I started playing 40k way back when 2nd edition had just come out. I was really into the hobby, purchasing every WD that came out and buying all the codex that came out for reading purposes only. Along the way I collected a decent IG army, a slightly smaller Tyranid army, and a small but servicable Space Marine army to boot. We played once a week and had a great time. Then 3rd edition came out and we recruited a new player. We played for a short while and I kind of lost my desire to continue. I wasn't a fan of 3rd edition. I found the lack of detail and need to double my army size a turn-off.
So I stopped collecting 40k and started playing Dungeons and Dragons. Roleplaying is really my true love and I finally gathered up a group of regulars.
Well, many years later I am shopping at my FLGS and see that a 5th edition of 40k has just come out. My curiosity was piqued. I have done some investigation but it seems that the new edition (I totally skipped 4e and can't comment on it) is still not my cup of tea.
I have, recently, however been bitten by the 40k bug and have gotten some of my D&D crew to give it a go. I have decided to stick with what I found to be the most enjoyable of the lot, and play 2e again.
I have managed to locate some extremely useful things from the web, but I am missing one very CRUCIAL component to making things fast and fun...an army building program.
I used to use Army Builder to make my armies. I still have my CD with version 1.4 on it. Unfortunately I can't find any datafiles for such an old version. So, I figure I don't mind forking out some cash to buy the new version. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to have 2ed data files for it. I found 2e files for AB version 2.X but the program doesn't seem to be available anymore.
This is why I have come to DakkaDakka. I used to read these forums ALOT a long time ago and know its a pretty knowledgable group. Does anyone who is more in the know with the current state of things around the web know where I could find a utility (program/spreadsheet/database) that would act as an army builder/snazzy printout maker for a resurrected game of 2e?
Thanks in Advance
DS
