Just some quick thoughts on how Deathwatch *should* work in 5th edition.

Captain: Can't decide how his upgrades would work

Librarian: Can't decide how his upgrades would work

Veteran: Any number of Deathwatch Space Marine can be upgraded for +10 points each

Veteran CCW's: (as old rules)

Special & Heavy: (as old rules)

Special

TSKNF:

Combat Tactics:

Sternguard Veterans are essentially Deathwatch with a different name. Wait till the new SM 'dex is out, and work from there.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

The Space Marine book has been seen by many people, myself included. It's something that'll take time I suppose.

I think DW should be more or less who they say they'll be. They are not as powerful as someone would assume based on the name alone. GW should beef 'em up some.

Deathwatch marines should all be veterans and should have a mix of the benefits of Sternguard and Vanguard. Saying they are just sternguard kinda ignores the component of their rules that allowed them to take all the close combat weapons.
