Ok, lately ive been hearing people going on about how chaos can change an elite choice to troop.

Now can someone please explain to me how that works?

Nope... can't do that.

They might be referring to Chosen though. They are basically CSMs but elite can have a few more upgrades and cost 3 points more per model. Maybe they are suggesting just buying a box of CSM and making them their chosen.

In the 3rd and 3.5 edition codicies, marked troops were elites unless your general had the same mark, in which case they retained their normal FOC slot.

For example, Basic Chaos Marines (troops) that took the Mark of Khorne became "Berzerkers" and moved to an Elites choice, unless your lord also had the Mark of Khorne, in which case they stayed as Troops.
