I have been rebuilding my Crimson Fists chapter in preparation for the combat squads. Now that the SM codex is out, this is what I am planning for the Ard Boyz finals (if I get there ):

Pedro Kantor

Sternguard 2x10 w/ heavy flamer, combi-melta x2, bolters
Sergeant w/ powerfist & bolter
Drop pod or Rhino (leaning toward the former)

Tactical 6x10 w/ flamer, lascannon, bolters
Sergeant w/ powerfist & bolter
Razorback w/ heavy bolter turret

I have 200 points to get it to 2500 points. I was considering a command squad or Honor Guard to go with Kantor. Looking for advice to plug any holes. Thanks!

War is not your recreation. It is the reason for your existence. Prepare for it well.

Doubt you'll be able to use it in the Finals.

The extra 200 points seems easy enough to spend.

Can you buy a razorback for a 10-man squad, then divide into combat squads so one can use it? How does that work?

Yes. It is pretty straight forward.

10/2 = 5

5 < 6

Thus 5 space marines (1 combat squad) can fit in a razorback.

I was more referring to the fact that the entry until recently has said "if the squad numbers 6 models or less they may select a razorback transport..."

The squad DOESN'T number 6 or less, it's a 10-man squad. Yes it divides into two squads later, but does it specifically allow you to consider only half the squad when making the purchase? I mean, if you didn't decide to split for some reason, they would be too numerous for it and it would be an illegal choice no?

I can, in fact, realize that 5 < 6, so you can kindly not insult my intelligence and answer my rules question in your next post.

IIRC, the new codex allows you to buy Razorbacks regardless of how many Marines you actually have in the unit.

The new Marine codex will be allowed in the final round.

The extra points? Maybe an Ironclad dread w/ drop pod. Twin heavy flamers could be a great stop gap against hordes.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

I thought you were asking about the rules for combat squads. In the new marine codex (as well as DA/BA) the squad you buy the transport for doesn't actually have to fit in the transport. You could have a full tactical squad w/ a razorback and choose to not combat squad it. Useful for KP games.

I'd opt for Rhinos instead of Drop Pods, since the rest of the army is (partially) Razorback-mounted.
