Every other unit on those two pages is an IC, does anyone think the Masque will be Errata'd into being an IC? She seems pretty useless without a retinue since a squad of IG can take her down in one round of lasgun fire...

The Masque is deliberately NOT an independent character.
If you want to keep her alive longer, you could always have a mounted herald of nurgle or khorne join her unit to soak up extra hits and raise the group toughness.

ICs cannot join units that contain only a single model, so the masque is always a viable shooting target.

The Masque is a very cheap way to get 3 Pavane's.

Then she dies.

That's the way of things. I don't think that will ever change, nor should it.

Besides, sticking her in a unit of Demonettes doesn't really make her more survivable in any meaningful way.

Reason: You can't use her ability to Pavane if the squad runs, and if you don't run...that deep strike formation and T3 means you are going to eat it from every template weapon the other guy can throw at you.

Oops, I missed that line in the IC rules. So much for the bodyguard idea. :(

Although if you run a whole squad of models and, say a Daemon Prince in front of her it's going to be hard to draw line of sight to her.

@Yak. You may want to check that. I though I just read yesterday that IC's may even form a super unit with another character. Check the section on characters.

"Do NOT ask me if you can fire the squad you forgot to shoot once we are in the assault phase, EVER!!!"

Yakface is correct.
ICs can join other ICs but not single model units.

In one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 6", kill a few guys with his flamer, assault 6", kill two more guys with his bayonet, flee 12", regroup when assaulted, react 6", kill one more guy with his bayonet and then flee another 12".
So in one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 42" and kill more than 5 people. At the same time a Chimera at top speed on a road can move 18"...

page 27 C: Daemons : Daemonic Rivalry.... this will not allow you to join ICs to other units of the Chaos Gods.

you can tell they meant for her to be alone at all times, a very vulnerable target. Like Stelek said, you get 3 pavanes, then she dies. if she doesn't, you did something very right or your opponent did something very wrong. But getting her and a Soul Grinder or two in and then hitting hitting multiple squads with maw cannons is a bad, terrible, not nice thing to do.
