Ok, so I painted my daemons AGES ago, and now I'm updating them with new models and I can't seem to get the same result. Here are some pictures.

So, I'm pretty sure that all i did for the skin tone was to prime using Skull White, and then give it a single wash with Red Ink, then varnish with Purity Seal.

However, I've still got half a pot of Red Ink, and when I try it now, the skin tone comes out a MUCH darker red, pretty much like a thin wash of Blood Red.

Does red ink get thicker when left for a long time? Maybe that's it, but then the tone is quite different.

I'm thinking, is there another wash or ink I might have used?

Can't realy help you on the skin, but I can tell you that the right deamonettes righthand is on backwards. I also saw moldlines...

For the claws it looks like a deep purple (purple ink...) and a highlight of warlock purple...

Not really an expert though...

Hi there

I can definitely confirm that , particularly with red and brown, the inks do get darker with age.

Watering down may help a bit, but I share your pain with this. I try to go for consistency but my blood angel rhino's have came out all sorts of shades of red over the years!

It's particularly a problem when GW go and change they're paint range.

It may be worth checking ebay or asking at your local GW for old stock of Red Ink. That's how I managed to get my supply of magenta ink for the next billion and one years!

Sorry if that's not much help to you.

@LordRavurion - Actually I had never noticed that hand being on backwards, but you're right! Yeah, the claws are liche purple over chaos black, highlisted with 50/50 liche purple and tentacle pink. That should be fine to complete, provided i can mix the pink, it's just the skin tone that's bothering me!

@iceholey - Thanks, i might try asking my local GW then - see if they've got any left. Does anyone know how the new red wash compares?

Ian, the ink has probably oxidized over time. My old Citadel Lava Orange Ink did the same thing and now looks a tad brownish. Diluting it won't change the tone of the red too much, but if it's just darker then it might help.

If you decide to water it down, try using a mix of acryllic medium like Future floor polish or Modge Podge with water instead of straight water. That'll help maintain consistency and enhance transparency

I couldn't tell you haw the new wash performs but I know they're more matte than the inks were.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell
