Subject: BLACK TEMPLAR RIGHTOUS ZEAL MOVE ?

IN 5E The rules say that a consolodation move can no longer be used to make contact with another model. In the Black Templar codex it says that if the moral check is passed for casualties from shooting then they get to make a move "identical to a consolodate move acheived through a massacre" So does this mean that zeal moves can no longer be used to move into base to base contact ? That would most certanly make zeal not as effective? please help me out here did the templars just get screwed?

No, they didn't get screwed. They got downpowered like every other assault unit.

Correct me if I am wrong but, This is in adition to the down powering of assault units... This is a special rule, that only Templar have, and it just lost a large part of it's point? Bet it gets either dropped , or rewritten in a new codex

I don't think they down powered it toomuch. Personally I like 5th edition much better than 4th. No more unit hopping. That was just so wrong to units that were not good in assault.

In fact as I see it IG only benefited from 5th edition's release. In almost every way.

I agree with you that unit hoping is good to have goton eliminated... but rightous zeal now looses some of its usability, because now a zeal move may take you within the charge range of your opponent without giving you the ability to close all the way in and taking away their charge bonus, which was in my opinion trhe most advantages part of rightous zeal

Brother Condon, you do realize that the Righteous Zeal move is "up to d6" ", right?

Which is huge now as Black Templars can't get pulled off of objectives or out of cover with this change.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby. |

So the Zeal move will never force you to move within charging range of an enemy unit, will it? Thus it hasn't really lost any usability.
The fact that you cannot consolidate into combat is lost by all armies, as mentioned earlier. So no singular loss on the BTs part.
BTs still have the possibility of getting a free "Run-move" in the opponents shooting phase, which is a nice little bonus for any assault army.
