I am interested with getting into the High Elves. But I know next to nothing about them. Are there any good links to some threads about them? Any suggestions for starting out with them? Good books for lore? I have the High Elf book.

www.ulthuan.net is a pretty good resource for High Elf information. The website does tend to be a bit laggy, though.
As for starting out, I'd get the battalion box. It comes with 1 unit of spearelves, 1 unit of archers, a Repeater Bolt Thrower and a bunch of silverhelms - enough stuff that you can try out a couple of different play-styles (while proxying) before investing a lot into the army. Plus, if you plan out ahead of time, it's chock-full of extra bits for conversion fodder!
Hope this helps.

There is a trilogy by black library called 'The Sundering' coming later this year or early next year.
Its part of the legends series where they go back and look at momentous perts of warhammer history.
The Sundering deals with the split between the HEs and DEs and the first novel will be 'Malekith The Sundering Begins'
I read Nagash the Sorcerer a couple of weeks ago and would rate it 9 out of 10. Only let down by having a modern map for reference and the 'Dramatis Personae' section at the back for some bizarre reason.
I'm about to start Heldenhammer about sigmar.
Hopefully they will do trilogies on the war of the beard, magnus the pious.

Thanks for the advice about the battalion box. I will do that for sure. I can't wait to read the books. Any other books that are good for HEs?
Also, what point total should I build for initially?

if you can get your hands on the 5th ed. HE army book, the fluff section is long, and a good read.
Have you played WHFB before, or is this your first Fantasy army? HE can be tricky to learn how to play the game with--there's little room for error (unlike say, Dwarfs, Orcs, Empire, etc.). I began playing Fantasy with HE, and found it tough to master the game (that said, learning the hard way has its advantages too). I actually miss the previous edition of the army book---with Silver Helms no longer being core, you can't field an all cavalry army (which angers me, really...so many other armies can do it...grr). Well, I guess you *can* field an all cav army, because they increased our special choice slots, but it's still less than if they were core :(
