Plan after finishing up Tau is to build a small IG army to fight beside it (apocalypse reasons as well). Complete newbie at guard for the most part, so wondering if this list will be effective (at killing things) if fielded.

Nice would eat alot of MEQ armys alive,i like it.

Agree it would be effective against MEQ Armies, but I think you'll get your lunch handed to you by Ork and other horde type armies. The key to them is having more template weapons. But overall not a bad starting list. If you mainly play MEQ Armys then you have a very good base to start with.

Or at least thats my 2 pfennigs worth of opinion.

Just a few things I'd change but overall a very nice list for 1k Guard.

Drop the flamers in the HQ and get yourself a Standard. And unless those grenades come free drop them as well. These guys just stand at the back and look pretty (or give leadership, I can never remember which).

Elites are fine, leave them alone.

Loose the mortars in the PHQ's. These guys need flamers - as many as you can squeeze in.

I'd be tempted to swap the heavies in the second platoon for autocannons just for some added Dakka. I've seen a lot of people rating them very highly for 5th Edition.

Nice to know I'm on the right track

The mortars for the PHQ's were a fluff thing for me...would kind of imagine the HQ squads hanging back, lobbing shells while yelling at everyone.

Krak grenades on the HQ squad were to deal with deep-striking armour things...like dreadnoughts.

Here's an alternative I'm thinking of though...Dropping my elites and the mortars for two more lascannon squads..yay, nay?

Kraks won't help much against dreadnoughts. Hit on 6, glance on six. The only thing they can accomplish is fooling you into thinking as assault might work.

List seems workable.Soldiers with flamer are to suffer the first wave assault from your enemy,so to put flamers on normal squads is better than giving them to your HQ.

Your HQ would be happier if they recieved plasmaguns.

Deep strike?

Well,IG is a member of Imperium armys...so you can easily add the best anti-DS unit in the game,to your list.you know what I mean.
