So final round I draw out our other local who always places well and has won a gt or two. He was playing his eldar.

Mission: objectives in the deployment zones, dawn of war, and annihilation all thrown in to one.

Pre-game thoughts: This is going to be rough. Hopefully I win the roll to go first and can force him to foot slog it all the way across the table. I'll try to snap off some wraithguard early on but will mostly ignore them and hopefully move around them.

I win the roll to go first!!.
I put my objective in the center about 6 inches in from the board edge. He places his all the way in the northeast corner. I deploy all my tanks on the western side of the table. He sets his rangers up on the northwest side in a patch of trees (way far away from all my flaming goodness). I leave one unmounted squad in the back next to my objective. He then lines up across from me with the wraithguard in the front, eldrad joining them, the avatar right next to them. Right behind them he puts both units of dire avengers and then along the board edge his guardians.

Turn #1
So one of my little bit's of trickiness. I have searchlights on two of my rhinos. They both shoot forward and light up the avatar and the wraithguard. This is so that my exorcists can move on from the board edge and light something up. I run all my tanks up about 9-10 inches and pop a bunch of smoke. Exorcists put 2 wounds on the avatar (not a stellar round). My immolators move on in the south west quadrant and start to make a bee line towards the rangers and then sweep into the harlies and dire avengers. I also wanted to threaten that area to see if I could get him to send his serpents with fire dragons on that flank instead of into all of my rhino's and troops on the right.

His turn #1. Wraithlords move on the table and the whole block moves up. My opponent moves up the wraithguard and avatar and moves the wraithlords in behind the wraithguard. The guardians stay put. The harlies and dire avengers break off towards the center. One dire avenger moves towards his deployment zone. He unloads everything but his avatar into one rhino and all he manages to do is stun it. The avatar charges another one and fails to do anything. He turbo boosts both squads of wave serpents towards my 2 immolators, he took the bait .

Turn #2
I run forward with 2 rhino's that were the furthest west and unload them. My target is a dire avenger squad that was moving towards his objective and the guardians or dire avengers. I tank shock the avatar and create a rhino wall separating the avatar off from the rest of the army. I then unload 2 squads next to the avatar. 2 exorcists shoot at the avatar and do nothing, my 2nd exorcist does nothing to the wave serpent. 2 units of rapid firing sisters manage to polish off the avatar. One squad of sisters kills all the dire avengers and the other squad kills all the guardians. First blood to the sisters!

His turn #2
His inability to pop tanks changed this round. The fire dragons get out and blow up one immolator and stun the other one. He then proceeds to blow up the other 2 between the wraith guard and one of the wraithlords. Since he got 6's for all of them all of a sudden my squads were sitting in the open. Not good. He unloads dire avengers into one cannoness unit and kills all but 2. My other unit gets pineed. Darn those leadership 11 failures. His other wraithlord twin flames a sisters squad. I lose 3 models, the vss, heavy flamer, and flamer, all I can say is ouch, there went my plan. I was hoping to lock the wraithlord in hth for a couple of rounds but it was going to be bad. Sure enough the wraithlord charges in and kills off the squad. He also completely surrounds another one of my rhinos. He immobilizes it and none of my guys can get out.

Turn #3
Celestian squad gets out of their immolator and shoots/assaults a unit of fire dragons. My troop squad defending my object moves up and flames/bolters a unit of fire dragons. My 3 exorcists put a single wound on one of the wraithlords. I then assault one of the wraithlords with a squad hoping to lock him down. I create a rhino wall to separate the wraithguard and the other wraithlord from 3 of my troop squads that were sitting near his objective. My trapped squad opens the top hatch and flames his harlies killing 3. I manage to blow up a wave serpent.

His turn #3. His wraithlord moves up and fails to hurt one of my exorcists. He blows up the rhino that had my trapped squad and then assauts and kills them all. Wraithguard continue their march across the table. He has to run them this turn if he wants any hope of getting to my objective. Wraithlord wins combat against my sisters and I roll an 11. I actually manage to run away. I just might be able to save the squad. His wave serpent shakes one of my exorcists

Turn #4
2 Exorcists shoot the wraithlord and fail to cause any wounds. My now unpinned canoness unloads 2 melta guns into it and it still refuses to go down, I assault in hoping to tie it up and keep it from reaching his objective to contest it.

His turn #4. He moves and runs with the wraithguard again. He turbo boosts to get his wave serpent in contesting distance. Wraithlord is now surrounded by rhino's shoots and kills a few sisters. The harlies come fleeting across the table and assault into the rhino wall blowing one of them up. I finish off the fire dragons and consolodate towards the wave serpent.

Turn #5
The celestian squad fires 2 melta guns into the back of the wave serpent and manage to take it down. A squad of sisters flames and bolters the harlies. 2 Exorcists fail to do anything to the wraithlord again.

His turn #5. The wraithguard move and run again, ending up half an inch short of my objective. He shoots his wraithlord at my squad sitting on the objective and i fail both armor saves and roll box cars for my panic check and run off the objective.

So it ends with a minor victory for me. My opponent only got 2 kill points. The end of the game was just crazy. We measured the range and found out he was out. And then after that I rolled my leadership and failed it. This was the most challenging and fun game of the tournament to me.

I ended the day with 2 massacres and a minor to come in first. So now it's on to round #2!

Ard Boyz Round #1 Game #2

Chaos Daemons!! Okay this one was going to be interesting. I know the other player very well and he is one of the locals that has a gt or two under his belt and an impressive number of wins at local tournaments.

His list
HQ
Ku-gath
Bloodthirster

Elites
6 Flamers
6 Fiends

Troops
10 bloodletters
10 bloodletters
10 plaguebearers w/ icon
10 plaguebearers w/ icon
10 horrors

Fast Attack
16 flesh hounds

Heavy Support
Grinder
Grinder
Grinder

Mission: Dawn of War, Annihilation

Pre-game thoughts: I play a daemon army myself and I hate playing mech sisters. I feel I definitely have an advantage but 3 grinders is going to make things tough. My goal is to cluster all my vehicles and force him to drop around me and hopefully I can overwhelm his first wave.

I win the roll to go first and graciously allow him to deploy first and go first!! I leave all my squads in their rhino's and deploy in the southwest corner of the table (north is the opposing player).

Turn #1
He divides up his waves and lo and behold he rolls a 1 for his daemonic assault thus having to deploy his second wave. His second wave was flamers, fiends, plague bearers, horrors, and 2 units of bloodletters. He deep strikes the majority of his units towards the center of the table. Plague bearers deep strike in and run to about 8 inches away from the rhino wall.

My turn #1. I dismount 2 squads and run up the rest of the rhino's and smoke. I deploy all 3 exorcists and 2 immolators on the middle to the southwest side of the table. He now has to decide which targets he wants to go after. I unload into the plague bearers managing to whittle them down to a whopping 7 models (his saves were godlike at one point he made 7 5+ saves in one throw of the dice).

Turn #2
I then proceed to watch my opponent fail all of his reserve rolls save 1. Only 1 grinder enters play. Bad for my opponent good for me. Using the icon he drops a grinder right next to one of my sisters squads. One unit of bloodletters and flamers moves towards my rhino/immolator block. The plague bearers try to move in the same general direction but roll a two for their difficult terrain. His other unit of bloodletters moves down the middle towards my immolators I just moved on the table. The soul grinder launch's a point blank phlem shot that scatters into no mans land and the horrors move up and kill 4 sisters from one of the dismounted units. The fiends circle towards the southwest hoping to get into the juicy exorcists. Flamers shake one vehicle, bloodletters charge and shake another one out of the rhino block. The bloodletters in the middle charge and destroy my immolator. Celestians get out and suffer no casualties. The fiends roll a 2 for the fleet. Keeping them out of the game for another round.

My turn 2. I have a lot of daemons on my door. I do some tank shocking and dismounting. I have one sisters squad move up and unload on the bloodletters in the center. All of them with some supporting fire from 1 of the exorcists and the surviving immolator kill all of the bloodletters. However I now have a unit of celestians and sisters that are possible targets for the fiends. Another sister's squad tank shocks through the bloodletters to get at the juicy horrors behind the horde. They dismount and fire into the squad killing 6 (leaving 4 of them alive). One canoness squad gets out and melta's the soulgrinder in the rear destroying it. The other cannoness squad melta's a couple of plague bearers and assauls them. One sister's squad dismounts and fires point blank into the flamers. And 2 other squads fire into the bloodletters wiping them out. In this one turn I killed off both bloodletters and the flamers, making me feel much safer. One exorcist shoots and kills a fiend.

Turn #3
My opponent gets ku-gath, plaguebearers, another grinder, and his flesh hounds. His plague bearers deep strike next to the surviving icon (locked in hth with my canoness). Along with ku-gath. The grinder deep strikes into the center of the table and the huge unit of houds has to go even further out because of their footprint. They then scatter 11 inches away from me. Ku-gath unleashes breath of chaos and throws some nurglings. Killing 6 with his breath and 2 from another squad because of his deviating nurglings. The grinder phlems a sisters squad and kills 4 more. The fiends run in and munch a celestian squad and then sweeping advance back into cover. His horrors fire on my cannoness unit that got the grinder in the back and assault in, I roll horribly and end up with 2 models left. I finally finish off the original plague bearer unit that was in combat with my canoness.

My turn #3. Alright ku-gath is now in my face and if nothing else I'll have to lock him down in hth. I move up my dh inquisitor and with the psy cannon put 2 wounds on ku-gath, not a bad start. I then launch an exorcist into ku-gath and do nothing. 2 more melta guns from my canoness cause another wound. I then light up ku-gath with 3 squads of sisters with bolters. He can't make a single 4+. 2 Immolators light into the plague marines along with 4 rhinos worth of storm bolters, I then shoot another squad into the plague bearers. My opponent runs out of luck with his saves and doesn't make a single feel no pain and I wipe the unit out. The sisters squad along with 1 exorcist wipe out the fiends. The last exorcist manages to immobilize the soul grinder. I finish off the horrors in hth. The only thing left on the table of my opponents is an immobolized grinder and the flesh hounds.

Turn #4
Rolling for reserves the last soul grinder comes in and the bloodthirster refuses to come onto the table. Grinders do nothing, the hounds run up and kill a celestian squad.

Final tally. He got a total 4 kill points (2 celestian squads).
15 kill points for me Soul Grinder, Fiends, Flamers, Ku-gath, 2 Bloodletters, 2 Plague Bearers, Horrors

Another massacre. My opponent had some absolutely hideous luck that definitely contributed towards my win.

So after all the mix up's about kill points I decided to take a mechanized sisters list. The army I took was:

Heavy Support
1 Exorcist w/ smoke
1 Exorcist w/ smoke
1 Exorcist

So that ends up being 13 tanks 8 of which start on the table during the dawn of war deployments.

This was a very odd list. It was a younger gentleman and I think he just put in everything he had. It was something like the following
HQ
1 Chaplain on bike
Priest

Elites
Dreadnaught
Assault Terminators
6 Arco-flagellents
Troops
10 Storm Trooper(flamer, grenade launcher, attatched priest)
16 Sisters (heavy flamer, flamer, vss w/ plasma pistol)
10 Marines (heavy bolter, plasma gun)
10 Marines (multi-melta, plasma gun)

Fast Attack
3 bikes (1 power weapon, 1 plasma gun, 1 melta gun), 1 attack bike w/ heavy bolter
3 bikes (1 power weapon, 1 plasma gun, 1 melta gun), 1 attack bike w/ heavy bolter
3 bikes (1 power weapon, 1 plasma gun, 1 melta gun), 1 attack bike w/ heavy bolter

Heavy Support
Land Raider

My opponent wins the roll for deployment/going first. I don't know why but he decides to have me go first. I line up all of my immolators and rhinos 12 inch's from the center in a big cluster and hang back the exorcists since he has no range on anything.

Pre-game thoughts.
From looking at the list I don't really have anything to worry about. I can tell that my opponent is fairly new to the game it should be a fairly unexciting match.

Turn #1
I pincer out my forces into the 2 un-deployed quadrants. I send 2 immolators up each side and the rhino's push up the middle. Exorcists manage to take out the dreadnaught. His turn #1 he moves the land raider and chaplain with bikers up the middle. The terminators assault one of the immolators stunning it and the chaplain and team manage to stun a rhino. His shooting manages to immobilize one of the immolators. He moves one squad of marines along his table edge towards one of the objectives and his bikes turbo-boost towards my table edge.

Turn #2
I deploy the majority of the squads out of the rhino's. I have 2 squads of sisters point at the chaplain and his bikers, and 2 squads pointing at the terminators. I deploy 1 hq and another celestian squad within striking range of either a squad of marines or the terminators. With concentrated firepower from the sisters I kill the chaplain and the bike squad ( I ended up having to have the exorcists provide an assist). I also kill off all of the terminators. I shoot down 4 marines and assault into the squad with the hq squad and the celestians. I unload a sisters squad and shoot up the arco-flagellents (all of them die). His turn #2 land raider moves forward and blows off the gun from an exorcist. A bike squad charges into one of my sisters squads after they take a pounding from shooting. Another bike squad shoots and then charges into one of my immolators but fails to damage it. Sisters and bikers are locked in combat. On the other side of the table I kill a few more marines and wipe out the unit. He unloads his storm troopers and flames my sisters squad that flamed his storm troopers. He only manages to kill 3 sisters.

Turn #3
My two celestians squads plus canoness get out of their immolators and move towards the only uncommitted bike squad. The inquisitor charges into the biker/sister combat. All the sister squads get back in there rhino's. My melta guns both miss the land raider, all 3 exorcists launch missiles at the land raider nothing hurts the beast. On the other side i shoot down and then assault the last biker with the two celestian squads. My mounted sisters squads move into his side of the table. The dismounted squad returns fire on the storm troopers killing all but 2. His turn 3 he blows up a rhino pinning the sisters squad that was in it.

Turn #4
On my turn I move up and flame the huge sisters squad with 2 squads of sisters and 2 immolators, killing about 2/3. 4 melta guns into the land raider manage to rip off a lascannon and stun it. Canoness and retiune assault the other unit of marines (after they were whittled down by exorcist fire) and finish them off. The bikers finish killing off the sisters and the inquisitor. His turn 4 he charges his bikes at my cannoness retinue, the canoness polishes them off and mvoes towards the sisters squad. His sisters squad returns fire and whittles down one of my squads.

Turn #5
I finally blow up the land raider and the chimera and polish off the last squad. I hold 4 objectives and he holds none.

Everything worked according to plan. Eviscerators dont do so well against land raiders. That thing was a beast to take out.
