Hi all
As there are some 'underplayed' units in
WH , especialy units thet have limited weapon chioices.(Empire Halbardiers for example.)
I was thinking of ways to boost the 'popularity' of these units by introducing 'unit drills', which could be applied to specific units.
This stops 'unilateral weapon buffs' that make certain units FAR to powerful, (yes Chaos Warriors I am looking at you!

)
I intend to make the standard shield JUST give +1 armour save ONLY.(The extra +1in close combat become a unit drill.)All other standard wepon bonuses stay as is.
The unit HAS to have a musician to sound the formation change, to use these unit drills.
Shield Unit drills.
Shield wall,The unit get an extra +1 armour save in close combat.
Tortoise, the unit gets an extra +1 armour save vs mundane non warmachine missile weapons.
Spear Unit drills.
Long spear, the unit can use longer spear shafts and still place spear points accuratley .The unit can fight in 3 ranks instead of 2 ranks.
Halberd Unit drills.
Unseat rider. the unit negates armour saves given by mounts.(Eg Ork boar boys
AS 5+ from AS3+)
Break charge.the unit breaks up the charging formation , chargers lose all
str bonuses from charging.(Chargers still strike first.)
Great weapon Unit drills.
Restrained strike.The unit srikes in initiative order at +1
str .(NOT +2
str)
2 hand weapon unit drills.
Parry, the unit may lose the off hand attack and gain +1 armour save in close combat.
ONLY ONE drill can be used at a time.
I think if applied sparingly to select units , this might help make ALL units 'equaly playable.'
But I need help with playtesting and feed back.(What unit drills to give to what units...appx points values etc.)
So would you kind
WH players give these ideas a try and help develop them ?
