I've searched and searched, and had several different answers to this question.
its a finnicky detail of my army list, and I must get it right for the ard boyz semi finals

Snikrot is instead of a Nob, and Nobs replace Kommandos. Therefore, buy fifteen Kommandos, upgrade one to Snikrot.

i agree with Nurglitch here. Snikrot is available in place of a nob, so he is counted as an upgrade just like a nob.

Nurglitch is right.
P.99 Ork Codex:
Kommandos
...
Unit Composition:
5-15 Kommandos
...
Character:
One Kommando may be upgraded to Nob
...
Boss Snikrot:
Instead of a Nob, one mob may be led by:
-Boss Snikrot (see page 62)
Seems pretty clear that you pay for 15 and upgrade one to Snikrot instead of upgrading to a Nob.

that is what I figured, and wrote my army list as such. 95 points for him seems like a lot but a nob with a klaw is 50 or so it ends up working out I guess
paying for 15 and him ending up with 15 is also the least likely to get me in trouble at the ard boyz semifinals
but see in the polls, there is a 50/50 split almost weather or not I get the refund of 10 pts since it doesn't say "upgrade one boy into snikrot"
I dunno. gogo poorly written codex!

Nobs, painboys, and upgrades in general in the codex are listed as "+ pts". Badrukk is listed as + pts too. However, Snikrot and Zagstruck just have a point cost. What is the difference between being listed as "+ pts" and just having a cost listed?

Hmmmm, I can see it either way really from a RAI.
But I voted that you don't upgrade a model for snikrot/zagstruck as the rules don't specifically say you do.
The rules just say "instead of a Nob" which means to me that you just can't take a Nob in the same mob as one of these characters.
But their rules don't say 'upgrade' and they don't include the '+' sign so to me I see no evidence that taking these characters replaces a model in the unit.

hmmm....Flash Gitz without any nob option have Badrukk with '+'. Stormboyz and Kommandos both have nob options and have their leaders without the '+'.

Quoted for unintentional hilarity.
If only there were some sort of method for discovering whether the same phrase meant different things or even if different phrases meant the same thing...

I agree with Yak. That's how I've been playing it. I think 15 is a hard limit for bodies in the squad.

I agree in theory with the 15 model limit
but then do I pay for the 15th kommando then 85 more for sniks?
I hate stupid ambiguity in this codex. it wasn't proofread obviously
I went ahead and purchased army builder. it shows the mob as 16 models.
who knows how the organizer will rule it. I'm just going to have to bring multiple lists and see what happens I guess

I agree with yak. If Snikkrott was an upgrade or replaced an existing model the rules would say so. They don't.
