Are there separate models for IG Veterans, or do I simply use normal Cadians with distinctive paint jobs?

I am shifting to modeling as you'll get better conversion ideas there.

1) normal cadians can serve as vets if they are distinctive (or you just say as long as your opponent understands).

2) here's your chance for easy (and cheap conversion). I'll start: mix up a unit of your main guys with crapa chans. Cadians and crapachans make excellent vets. Also Pig Iron makes excellent series of head which would work well on cadians in this capacity.

So there aren't really specific models for Vets? What is "Pig Iron?"

Thanks again!

1) no there are no specific models for vets.
2) small company-not bad and good price.

Basically, mix it up a bit. The tendency seems to be a rugged, 'been-around-the-proverbial-block' look; dirty, not
as uniform as other units. For my grotzmen I've gone with the standard combination of catachan and cadian parts.
Easily done, and well worth a try. Or perhaps if the rest of your army has a bright colour scheme; paint them in
camo colours! They've got infiltrate, don't they? But in general; make them stand out!

Good luck working on them.

Use space marine scout bodies, bolter or shotgun arms, and Cadian heads. They look nice. I made 5 so far. They are modelled aft the Merican Fusiliers from the Marcarion Crusade.

For my vets, for the special weapons I used the metal guys that have the backpacks and all, and use "lighter" special weapons for the regular troops. For the other guys in the squad I painted the uniforms the same, but I added chipped paint markings to the armor plates. I also give them all backpacks, grenades, canteens, etc but I don't put those extra bitz on my regular guardsmen. So, my vets are bulkier looking so it's easier to tell em apart.

I use a similar method to Necros.

As many extra details as i can physically fit on the model! Canteens, ammo packs, combat blades even the rucksacks from heavy weapons teams.

Hope that helps.

i used middenheim & chaos marauder heads from the plastic sets - gives them a Corbec'esk look imo. very easy to do too!

then i just add a few different weapons like bolters, shotguns and autoguns from current ranges and older necromunda weapons sprues. also mixing catachan bits on to cadian bodies works well.

I converted my Vets using the Space Marine Scout legs (as has been suggested) and the new Catachan Command heads (which are vastly superior to the normal Catachan heads). I did a small Carbine conversion to the Lasgun to make them distinctive (an idea I borrowed from a modeler elsewhere on this forum).

Only two armies for me:
