In turn 2 of a game I had 2-5 man assault squads fighting 1 10 man squad of marines. They stayed after losing first round of melee. The next turn he counter assaulted with 10 GKs and wiped out the first 5 man squad. The rest of the melee was no casualties on either side.
He stated that since I lost the melee that the second squad must take a -5 Ld to the second squad seeing as both squads were locked with the original squad. My thoughts were they were seperate squads so I should only take one morale test at no -Ld.

Who's correct and why?

Your opponent is correct. Re-read the rules for resolving assaults.

you dont consider resolution based on individual squads, you consider resolution based on individual combats.

when the 2 assault squads and marine squad were fighting, it was one combat. when the GK charged in it was still one combat.

all squads will then be effected by combat resolution.

if you had lost the combat by 5 spit accross both assault squads, both would have had to make a LD test at -5.

similarly if you had won the combat by 5 both the SM squad and the GK squad would have had to make an LD test at -5.

If we were to play each other in a tournament, not only would I table you, I would murder you, your family, every woman you ever loved and burn down your house. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live?
