Hi everybody.

I'm getting back into Warhammer 40K after a 6 year absence. Hearing through the grapevine that the rules had been updated and a load of new models were recently hitting the shelves motivated my return. I would still consider myself a novice tabletop gamer, though I have a 1500pt list of Eldar collected, which I will list below. Does anyone have any advice they would give to a returning general after a long absence? The list is by no means the army that I'll end up using on the table, but represents where I left off collecting a few years ago. I'm definitely in the market for a unit of Harli's and Banshees, but would take suggestions. I'm probably going to leave the d-cannons off the final list, and go with another prism as i like the new BS of 4 on them in the new codex.

Also, along with my Eldar, I've decided to start a Black Templar SM army. Any advice on where to start with them and what to focus on would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

Eldar List:

HQ
1 Farseer
Singing Spear
Spirit Stones
Doom
Guide

Elite
9 Fire Dragons
Exarch with Firepike

Troops
12 Guardians
Warlock with Embolden
Starcannon Platform
12 Guardians
Warlock with Embolden
Starcannon Platform
12 Guardians
Warlock with Embolden
Scatterlaser Platform

Fast Attack
4 Shining Spears
Exarch with Powerweapon
1 Vyper with Brightlance
1 Vyper with Brightlance

Heavy Support
1 Fire Prism
1 Falcon with eldar missile launcher
2 Weapons Platforms with D-cannons

Thanks for checking this out and welcoming to the DakkaDakka forums!

Hi Jertor. Eldar is a nice army to play. Your list is good for friendly play but not at the tournament level.
Generally, you need to max out HS and Elite.
Guardian Defenders generally don't cut it if they are left unsupported. I.e., if you run GDs then take an Avatar so that the GDs benefit from his fearless bubble. But then you need a Farseer fortuning the Avatar.
Vypers with brightlances are one hit wonders, Shining Spears may get outnumbered thanks to the counter-strike rule, Fire Prisms are good if you take 2 or 3, Falcons should transport Harlies or Fire Dragons, and Weapon Platforms cannot be hidden behind area terrain.

Thanks for the quick feedback guys!

Wuestenfux, I really knew that the list wasn't tournament ready, it was just display of the models I had previously collected. As you said to concentrate on the HS and elite, that is what i'm going to do. I'm going to start with the Banshees and probably add a Harli Troupe in there as well. Both should fill the need for dedicated CC, which this army is clearly lacking in. Then I'll either grab another HQ choice. I'm not sure on which though. I've been leaning towards the Jain Zar Pheonix lord for the banshees or the avatar. Not sure which yet. To be honest, I want to get a couple friendly games under my belt to decide which way I'll go. Once those are both fleshed out, I'll probably add another Fire Prism to the list for two reasons. I like the hard hitting BS 4, as well as the ability to add the two together for a stronger hit.

Going fully mech is certainly a nice army to play.
Two Fire Prism, Falcon with Harlies or Fire Dragons, and some troops in Serpents would be a good start.
