helping a friend out with the next ard boyz tourney hes going to, and he asked me to build a mean list that is not neccesarily geared against him, but proxy-ing is not an issue so all is possible.

farseer-bike/s.stones/doom/fortune

6x warlocks-bikes/embolden/6x sing. spear

eldrad

7x pathfinders

7x pathfinders

6x guardian bikes-2x s. cannon
warlock-bike/embolden

20x guardians-s.laser
warlock-embolden

8x striking scorpions-exarch/scorpions claw/infiltrate
waveserpent-T.L. s. cannon/s. stones

6x fire dragons

falcon-s. cannon/holo field/s. stones/vectores engines

3x warwalkers-6x m. launchers

3x warwalkers-6x scatter lasers

5x swooping hawks-exarch/skyleap

this was just something i threw together prety quick....any ideas would be great since i can play pretty much anything. oh btw, eldrad is keeping the walkers fortuned/guided, and fortune on the guardian squad he stays with.

Not competitive for Ard Boyz. It's a bit of everything but lacks focus. E.g., Warwalkers and Swooping Hawks might be good at smaller level, but not at 2500 pts.

How about a fully mech army? Does he have the models?

interesting..

the idea i was going for, was that with eldrad keeping the walkers fortuned/guided they would be pretty mean....together with the seer council thats a tough choice. yea i know the hawks are weak, but the template coming out and them being un-touchable is a nice trick that is annoying for most troop choices. the pathfinders grab objectives and are a unit that must be killed up close to deal with and the guardians are ablative wounds for eldrad and another objective grabber.

hmmm didnt think it was that bad...ill go back to the drawing board.

well i played vs the tau, not with that list but this one:

eldrad

farseer-s. stones/fortune/guide

9 pathfinders (to go with the seer)

7 pathfinders

10 wraithguard
warlock/conceal

10 wraithguard
warlock/conceal

6x fire dragons
waveserpent/TL S cannon/spirit stones

8x scorpions/exarch/scorpion claw/infiltrate
waveserpent/TL S cannon/spirit stones

3x warwalkers/3x EML/3x scatter lasers

wraithlord/b lance/s cannon

wraithlord/b lance/s cannon

ended up with a minor victory, mainly because he just couldnt finish off the guard and pathfinder squads so i eeked out more kill points

The army contains a large anvil but it lacks a hammer unit (bar the melee-oriented Scorpions). Two Serpents in Ard Boyz will be taken down quickly, either many or none.
If you drop the skimmers, take two squads of Harlies. They provide a decent hammer.

Here's what I ran at the local 'Ard Boyz. I won't be able to make it to the semifinals, so I gave my spot to another guy. I'll admit it's not optimized as much as it could have been, but it stomped some

Farseer on bike w/fortune, doom, both runes
9 warlocks on bike, 2 embolden, 2 enhance, 5 destructor

4x10 dire avengers incl exarch w/ pw/ss and bladestorm <--- (Here's where I wish I had just dropped the exarchs and used a regular joe for the 10th body)
4x wave serpents w/ brightlance and stones

1x6 fire dragons mounted in wave serpent w/ brightlance and stones

3xfire prisms (naked)

Funny thing was, noone shot at the fire prisms. Anyway, you probably don't need the 6th fire dragon, unless you tend to roll low with them (like me).

This list looks quite competitive. What happened?

I ended up taking second. My first game was against IG. Kind of a strange mix of units. I kept his tanks stunned or exploded, ignored his troops for the first turn or so. Not playing that game aggressively enough cost me, as we only got 3.5 turns in. I don't think he had played many 5th ed games at all. My second game was against BT's. 3 Landraiders, 2 razorbacks, 5 man troop squads, and 3 termie units. I massacred him hard. He lost everything but his giant termie assault squad by turn 4, so he conceded. I think I lost 2 wave serpents the whole game. The council really ran nuts on that one. The third game was against the 1st place guy, and he ended up winning by like 1 KP. The last game was probably one of the most fun games I've played in a while, very tactical. He took zilla nids with a few squads of outflanking stealers.

I was happy with how the list did, but not too happy with some of my tactical decisions. I definately could have won the last game, but the previous massacre I had scored made me too greedy and a little too aggressive

KoV, then it was more the tactical decisions than the list. Anyway, the tourney was certainly good to gain experience. Next time, you gonna make it...

Well, I did qualify for the semi-finals, but I'm going to be out of town due to work when they hold them. There's always next year!

As far as the list goes, yeah, it was pretty solid. The few things I would change wouldn't change it drastically. One more warlock would sure be nice. Games 1 and 3 I got shorted turns. Next year I think I'll bring one of those speed chess clocks and set it on the table!

@Huge_Eldar:

If you do go with a list like this, keep in mind that most armies can only kill 1 or 2 of your tanks a turn with the new damage table rules.

well i really do like that list K0v, but 8 tanks is not a possibility for me.

question....

did you make all 9 bikelocks? or did you have them commisioned?(sp)

I made them over the course of a few nights. They were pretty hilarious, since the bits I wanted to use weren't available at the time. I ended up just glueing some guys with swords and shuriken pistols onto little plasticard surfboard things, and then put them on flight bases. Since GW doesn't make the model, the organizer said it was cool ahead of time. I used my winnings from the tourney to get the models to make them the way I want them.

As long as the army is WYSIWYG, and the models are about the right size/footprint, you should be alright.
