I have read the new SM codex, and I enjoy the concept of Pedro Kantor as a Commander (nice model, nice paint scheme for the chapter, nice bonuses, Sternguard as scoring units... woo!). I'm having some trouble with the format of my list though. I know I want Pedro and a Vanguard squad in a LR, and then basically go with Sternguard and Tac for the rest. My only problem is if I should mount up my Sternguard in Rhinos and go with special weapons, leaving my Tac in the backfield, or if I should have my Tac mobilized. I was thinking of 3 6-man Tacs with PF and a Lazerback, and then as many Sternguard as I could manage, or mounting up 2 Sternguard units in Rhinos and bringing up the rear with Tac squads. How would you guys suggest running them?

Catch me if you can.

I would put Pedro in the LR and the tac squads in drop pods and use the SGVs (sternguard vets) as a firebase. The kraken bolts have 30". If anyone gets close, bust out the AP3 Gets Hot! rounds.

Certainly not the most efficient of builds but it should at least give you a framework to make a list from. If you are going to include a LRC I would always put an assaulty unit in it to make use of the assault ramps.

Totally not how Sternguard should be used.

Devs can't combat squad.

You're making me cry bud.

Leave the tacs to hold the line. Combat squad your heavy weapon tacs around your objectives. Let them be the firebase.

Use the Sternguard as a 10-man drop pod objective taker. I'm going with a heavy flamer, combi-melta x2 and vet w/ pf (2 squads). This load-out should be able to deal with all-comers. With their special ammo, they can rapidfire whatever is on the objective and clear it upon dropping, next round seize the objective, then use it as a new firebase. Meanwhile, your other combat squads are advancing to provide support.

My Kantor version:

Kantor

Sternguard 2x10 w/ heavy flamer, combi-melta x2
Vet w/ pf
Drop pod

Tac 3x10 w/ flamer, lascannon
Vet w/ pf
Razorback

200+ points to spend

This will be my base for the scoring missions. The remaining 205 will be build to suit.

Just made a list like that in another topic. Have a look at it.

Whoa. I just realized that you could take Razorbacks no matter what the squad size.
That makes things way easier.

Catch me if you can.

Neat, but not built correctly IMO.

Right. Either everybody drop podded or transported in Razorbacks/Rhinos.

Sorry, you cannot expect that Stelek builds an army for everyone if he thinks its not correctly built.

I did earlier this week on my blog.

It isn't a Kantor army (because it isn't how I'd run Sternguard).

Don't want Kantor in a maxed out sternguard heavy army. You really don't. Stubborn = fail.

Inspiring Presence=Win. I didn't really like the whole Stubborn thing anyways, but inspiring presence, scoring Sternguard, and a decent statline and weaponry made me go for him. What's so wrong with stubborn though?

Catch me if you can.

Dornfist's army contains a mix of Lazerbacks and drop pods. I'd replace the drop pods by Lazerbacks, or vice versa, as this will dilute enemy shooting.
