Well, just arrived today and spent the afternoon driving around downtown and Westchase. There is damage, and it will be a while in the fixin. However, all I can think of is that Houston dodged a bullet. It could have been a heck of a lot worse. My condolences, sincerely, to all those who have been hrown into a spin, lost homes (a buddy of mine in our Houston office is now homeless with his wife and baby thanks to a tree.) and god forbid lives. But there could have been a lot more poor souls joining their ranks. Haven't made it down to Galveston yet, and doubt I will.

Be advised these horrendous traffic jams are not normal but the result of, as of this morning, 3200 intersection lights still out and them shutting down the HOV lanes (thats utter freaking nonsense).

Yeah, having every third light out downtown is making things a bit of a snarl, but people still drive the way they ever did.

The amount of traffic that had returned to the streets on Sunday of last week was bad enough, but on Monday, it seemed like everyone who was working was out, and everyone who did not have to work was so stir-crazy that they had to get out and look around at the damage.

I grew up in Florida, and have seen my fair share of hurricanes, but I have never seen power outages like this. I can't imagine that there has been a time where this many customers have been without power for this long.

Nope. Its crazed. I applaud Centerpoint and Entergy for gettign power back up and all the contractors that have come here from other states.

jfraz: I work offshore. I'm in town detailing out a new system that we are going to ship out to a vssel in India, and then mobilize there. So, of course, we need to kitchen sink the initial loadout. Trying to get material through India is akin to seeing through a dark glass clearly.

Yamato: I saw a few in Florida myself, years ago. Key West. And that's one thing I don't understand about the traffic here since I got here. The damn superslab is packed like a parking lot since the tolls are free for the moment, however the feeders are much clearer and moving a lot faster. Why don't people get off the slab and down to the feeder?
