how did you get the holes in the carapace?

The model comes with holes in the carapace, I liberally applied a mix of ink and GW black wash to get into the cracks after painting the model.

Great job at bringing out the details. The inking is appropriately ridiculous for such a monstrosity.

Have you considered using a 4th color? The model really feels like it only has 2, because the purple and red complement each other so neatly over the white.

I'm thinking something in the vein parts.
