I ran into an interesting situation yesterday. A battlewagon was being targetted by a waveserpent. From the waveserpents perspective it was shooting in the side arc, and the side arc facing was 60% obscured by a building, however, the rear armor was 100% exposed and if you measured the entire vehicle only 40% of the entire vehicle was obscured by the building.

How do the cover rules work in this situation? My opponent offered me the following choices, I can shoot at the rear armor, but since it was an oblique shot he'd get a 3+ save (even though the rear armor was 100% exposed) or I could shoot at the side armor and he'd get a 4+ save. I was fairly sure that the vehicle gets no save since only 40% was hidden, and I could clearly see the other 60%.

Part II of this question, the waveserpents front mounted shuriken cannons were in the vehicles rear arc, and the turrent mounted brightlance was in the vehicles side arc.... what the heck arc do I shoot at?

The rulebook clearly states that you *have* to fire at the arc that the firing model is in.

The only exception to this is if the entire facing is obscured (but another facing isn't), in which case you can fire at the other facing but with a 3+ cover save.

So in your situation the Waveserpent would have to fire at the side armor as part of that facing could be seen.

It's all on page 62 of the rules.

And it is the facing of the vehicle that matters, not the entire vehicle, when it comes to determining 50% cover.

To clarify your brightlance would shoot at the side armour with a 4+ cover (as 50% or more of that facing was in cover) and the shuriken cannon would shoot at the rear armour with no cover save (as that facing was less than 50% in cover).

In one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 6", kill a few guys with his flamer, assault 6", kill two more guys with his bayonet, flee 12", regroup when assaulted, react 6", kill one more guy with his bayonet and then flee another 12".
So in one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 42" and kill more than 5 people. At the same time a Chimera at top speed on a road can move 18"...
