ok i have an idea for a tourney level PM spam list. My biggest problem is whether to have fewer larger units or more smaller units. so basically the constants are:
1 daemon prince (wings, mk of slaanesh,warptime)
1x2 oblits

ok the variable part of the list is
a.
3x10 PM w/ champ (2x meltaguns, pwr fist,combi-flamer,melta bombs)
1x9 PM w/ champ (2x flamer, pwr fist,combi-flamer,melta bombs)

or

b.
3x7 PM w/ champ (2x meltaguns, pwr fist,combi-flamer,melta bombs)
2x7 PM w/ champ (2x flamer, pwr fist,combi-flamer,melta bombs)

With only two oblits, you are running shy on stuff with armour killing capacity. I would use my 6 oblits to off your 2 oblits, murder the deamon prince next turn, and run rampant on you! lol.

... Just so I get it right... you are runing a slanny DP with Warptime????? Good god man at least give him a fighting chance with Mark of nurgle if you are so ashamed of using lash.

(lash really is the only way to go in a tourne setting)

However, back on track, put double melta in each squad and you should be ok against most lists.

Plague marines really work best in units of 14+... you can lose a bunch with bad dice and still be a pretty strong unit on the next turn.

I would go 2 units of 14 and one small unit to hold back and take care of homebase.

I dunno, I've run across the 7-man unit of Plague Marines quite a few times, and they're fairly rough to deal with, particularly with having to destroy every single one to stop them from scoring or get a KP. Frankly, with the lack of heavy firepower, going with 2 big troop units and one little would be very bad for a mission with 4-5 loot counters... I could see a lot of draws and things like 1-0 wins where he contests all of yours and manages to have just one.

I like choice b much better than choice a. However, see if it's possible to scrape together the points to mount them all in Rhinos (the 40-pt Rhino with the extra bolter). Fantastic for screwing with your opponent, lots of tank-shocks or drive-bys with double flamer or double melta. Maybe drop the melta-bombs and combi-flamers from the squads to get some points. The Rhinos are very effective. (Also, again, with objective missions, you don't want to rely on everything short of a Daemon Prince being S&P. Sometimes they can end up being a little too slow and not quite purposeful enough.

Well, as said you need a few more Obliterators for anti-tank. I had more trouble so far with larger PM squads; units of 14+ are nasty.

ok how about getting rid of the oblits/DP all together putting some squads in a rhino and making all squads dual melta guns

1 chaos lord(pwr fist,TL bolter,melta bombs)

3x9 PM w/champ (2xmeltaguns,pwr fist,melta bombs) + rhino(TL bolter)

2x6 PM w/ champ (2xmeltaguns,pwr fist,TL bolter,melta bombs)

Well, this list lack synergy. Once the Rhinos are gone, the army is fully footslogging and very short-ranged. A faster enemy could then pick unit by unit.

ok, good call, what about forgetting the rhinos and going full footslogging. thats like 45 PM and 10 melta guns. i dont care how fast you are that many PMs are tough to put down to the last one in each squad and OK i need to make sure that they dont get piece-mealed. this would prob be most difficult in multiple marker situations, but even then a 9 man PM squad is hard to move.

i mean i appreciate that they are immobile medium range troops, but i think their numbers and livability could make up for this.

you need more rhinos have squads of 7 and use demon prince with wings,mon,wind of chaos and maybe a small squads of termies.
