Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

So I have written two articles from the start that other users are free to edit. What is involved in copyright of said articles. I want to at least link to them from my own site, what do I do all day. Whatever you guys say is cool, I am happy to contribute to the awesome that is dakkadakka.

If you're asking that by posting an article on dakka if we somehow own or copyright what you've written, the answer is no.
Feel free to link away to anything and everything. That's the whole goal of the article system is to get people to visit and contribute so the more you link the better.

Yeah, basically all we take is a right to republish it in case we want to make a dakka magazine in the future, or some company comes up to us and asks us if they can print things from dakka in their print media. It is still yours.

He can have my $25 at least. He is a little short for my tastes, not to mention ... uh ... hairy? And 'smart'. We would not want that. No offense to any friendly friends.
I am glad we all stopped being weird. Thanks, malf.
I think what I will do is link them, with a copy or maybe a screenshot of the introduction part. Anything that generates traffic, right.
Speaking of which, used to be when I typed 'Tacobake' into Google (after my dedication this year of making a presence on the Internet). Some people go to school, I make websites. I filled the first page. But now I am relegated to the third. I do not know what that says about Google's algorithms, I just thought it was ... interesting. Funny, maybe.

I'm not trying to be a pain, or an attention-grabber (which I am ) but this is what I am going to do. It is not that I think my funny jokes have the power to change worlds, I just want to think ahead.
Stats and game design articles that I publish here, I may publish on my own site first, with copies in my gmail (analgous to a registered letter), which I have been doing/ will do for other things.
One they are here, other people (including myself) can go ahead and edit them, I don't care. And if you want to publish them in a book or something that's cool. If we are super awesome 10 years from now. It's your site. You bought it. I thought about it. I don't have time, I don't have the awesome and I didn't have the $3,000, either. If I really think I can make money from my 'B-movie' humour presumably I can find a way to do it .
That's it, I guess. I might be having a stupid moment, and I might be naive, but I was just worried about it.
-----
So what I am doing is reserving copyright as the original author? Is that what this is?
legoburner wrote:right to republish ... It is still yours.
... alright. I am satisfied. I don't think there will be any 'issues'.
Speaking of publishing articles, I am in the process of researching every permutation of copyright law you can think of, so it is just sort of on my mind.

This is what my local newspaper says:
"Copyright in letters and other materials sent to the publisher and accepted for publication remains with the author, but the publisher and its licensees may freely reproduce them in print, electronic and other forms."
So there you go, same thing I reckon. Sorry, I can get fussy.

I hate PDF's! You try to scroll through them at first just to skim, and it's like a DOC file that's had too much to drink. Just thought I'd get that out of my system.

PDFs can be uploaded to the wiki using the Upload a File link, but we prefer to avoid them as they are not as portable as html (cant be viewed on most phones, consoles, etc)

And of course they can always be attached to any post in the forums.
Although to view them you have to download the file.

Most phones? Hmmm, really? If you mean cheap free phones, yes.
Every smartphone can read pdf's.
Well, I'm assuming the iBrick can but who knows.
When you say consoles...do you mean like someone browsing the internet on their Wii and reading dakka? I sure hope not. lol

No that is exactly what I mean. I work hard to ensure dakka works on the widest range of machines possible. A full 2% (1 in 50) visitors dont use a physical computer to browse dakka and I like to look after them too. Phones can read PDFs but they dont scale/wrap the text in the same way that browsers do, and so the PDFs become practically unreadable.

Yes as much as is possible. There is an RSS feed available of every topic which contains the raw text with everything else filtered out ( here is this topic). Screen readers can then read either that or the normal dakka threads. The post previews and glossary popups are not blind friendly, but everything else has alt or title text to help blind people enjoy dakka.
