My local GW store had it's 5 year anniversary of it being open and they were selling a poster of the Emperor standing across from Horus with the body of Sanguinius at his feet. Probably the best 40K picture I've ever seen. So much so that I'm thinking about starting a SM army with the golden armor the Emperor and Sanguinius had in the picture.

Now my question is I think a Black Templar army would better suit the theme but I don't know if I can just use BT and say they are my own. Or if I just have to use a Vanilla SM list. I think I can but I wasn't sure.

My other question was that would Blood Angles, Black Templars, and Dark Angles be able to use the stuff in the new codex like the thunderfire cannon?

The gold armor is generally artificer armor, most chapters have it in small quantity.

The answer to the 2nd question is stupidly and sadly a resounding no.

Penetrating so many secrets, we cease to believe in the unknowable. But there it sits nevertheless, calmly licking its chops.

Sure you can use the BT codex for your army, just make up a name and call it a successor chapter.
I've seen it be done in the past.
