Those are pretty nice, but I can only assume they're true 28mm scale, and as such useless for anything I would want to do with them

The supply does not get to make the demands.

It's really awesome to see them putting out such high quality plastics.

It's not so awesome that I can't help support them more because I haven't really gotten into the historical wargaming scene.

Maybe it's time to start doing some one off military stuff.

Knowing little about Napoleonics (other than painting 15s for hire will suck your soul away) what is the deal with the uniformed guys and the ones wearing the overcoats? Rank/weather/country?

Somewhere in south-central England.

Every army had its own uniform (a number of different uniforms and colours depending on branch of service, etc.) Many or all armies also changed details of their uniforms during the course of the wars.

Every army issued fairly standard greatcoats in grey, brown or whatever for weather protection. Hats also had wet weather covers which you can see on a couple of these guys.

These troops are French. You can see some of them have different hats. There is no doubt huge significance in this but I don't follow uniform details that closely.

It has been suggested that by making all your troops in wet weather gear, it would be possible to model nearly any army's infantry just by changing the command group with its flags. It would be a rather dull looking army though.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

Yep. Saw these before. Pretty awesome. Will be great for mass battle, skirmish (Sharpe Practice, Gloire!), or "Lacepunk" (i.e. pre-victorian sci-fi).

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

Every plastic kit and metal figure that the Perrys put out is lovely, and yet also a stab in the eye to every Imperial Guard player (40k, not French). Why are the Perrys not turned loose on our beloved rank and file IG?

Remember the good old days when every IG figure was done by them? Heck, when 50% of the GW figure line was? Instead we are forced to endure the moon-booted Cadians and giant-hat-mustachio-lascannon-sized-lasgun first born.

Only problem is they aren't firing, if they were I would have instant Mordians!

Yeah needs a headswap but there you go.

http://www.victrixlimited.com/ is also making plastic Napoleonic figures, in their case starting with the British. Unlike the Perry figures which are more "traditional" figures with only a single part to glue on (the pack), these will be multi part, and have at the very least more active arms. Should be more useful for non-napoleonic gaming, even if they are not Perry sculpts. The company plans to make a ton of different Napoleonic figures, including of course more french figures (although these are early empire, not late like the Perry figures).

Now Romans, Celts, and Napoleonics are all very well, but where are the plastic 28mm HYW and Italian wars figures? Those I would buy for sure.

How about a war from this (young) century?

28mm multipart NATO and insurgents!

Come on!

Dang it! I've always wanted a huge well sculpted 28mm napoleonic army but new it would be too expensive to get. These look as good as the metal foundry minis and are gonna be loads cheaper too.

Stupid Perry twins and their awesome plastic miniatures, guess I gotta add this to my "things to paint before my eyes get too bad" list.

Start on 6mm then. I found my eyes got too bad by the age of 45.

I am sure that the NATO standard forces would sell well! Just not to me. Not sure that insurgents would be generic enough to sell enough to justify plastic. Not an expert, but south American natives/Balkan types/Caucausian mountain rebels/afghans/Arabs do not dress enough alike, although they do have the same level of equipment.

slacks, t-shirts, ski masks and AK47s will cover most of the world. Throw in some robed bodies and turban heads for variety. And of course RPGs.
