I am a newbie, so I apologize up front...

I have ordered the new Black Reach and Space Marine Codex, hopefully to arrive in the next few weeks.... Will the "rule" book and codex be enough to get me started okay? I mean am I going to be short enough on rules (not having the full blown 5th Ed Book), to get totally embarassed at a game or will I be okay?

Secondly, what are good troops to have and what is fluff? I am playing Space Marines, no real chapter affiliation yet (waiting on codex). I have now:

1 each 5 man scout team
1 each 5 man jump pack assault team
3 each six man tactical teams
1 each Commander
1 each Rhino

BR will give me some Terminators, a Dreadnaught and more marines. I am looking at a Land Speeder, but my budget and lack of experience are limiting me.

Advice, comments?

This is a rules forum

But that aside. Landspeeders were great in 4th edition... not so much in 5th edition. With the Black reach box and what you mentioned you have enough to grind out 1000 point games until you know what you like.

the black Reach rule book has all the actual rules in it, just not the hobby or setting background information.

Fluff is another term for setting story.

Well, add another 5 men Assault squad. This gives you a 10 men squad; give the Vet Serg a power fist.

Moreover, you need more troops. At least 2x10 Marines, equipped with flamer, missile launcher; power fist for Vet Serg. Add two Razorbacks.

The Commander is fine.

Next I'd go for a Sternguard unit; you could play the Commander as Petro Kantor, Sternguard will then count as troops.

Finally add some support units. Personal preference here. Shooty Dreads, Termies, Predators...
