Tyranid players, or any wise gamers,

What have you found or seen to be the most convenient way to transport horde tyranids? I have roughly 200 bugs, including a few TMCs, and once I spray and dip them I no longer want to keep them in a series of boxes but I don't want to carry around a series of cases. Is there any case out there that accommodates more towards mass of miniatures over single model placement? So Maybe I could have one large case or two medium. Any thoughts? Thanks!

How much money would you be looking to spend on the solution? Some gamers will spend £100's for their miniature protection whereas others will go cheap.

Not a fan of the single slot foam things myself. For my 3 Monolithed Necron army I just picked up a £12 luggage bag from Instore, lobbed some Bubble Wrap from work inside and nabbed some tubs from £land, with bubble wrap in for the troops. The Luggage bag fits the Liths, the tubs, rulebook, dice etc perfectly

Not sure if that helps though.

Also, where you transporting them to? Your local store? If everything is going in a car, then invest in a steel toolbox, superglue a small magnet to the bottom of each base and they'll never move.

I take them to local shops and some basement games. I am looking to go cheap.

I used to use this method years ago, but I have since gotten proper cases for my bugs. The GW cases work well, so long as you are not afraid of cuttin up the foams to accomodate the larger models. 2 regular GW cases, or 1 of their double wides will hold a ver sizeable army just fine.

Anyway, on to "on the cheap". Find a cardboard box, preferably double-walled. Get ahold of some egg-crate foam that's meant for matresses. Wal-mart selles it, or used to. Cut the egg crate up into rectangular "trays" that fit your box. Load army into low parts of egg crate. For larger models, put a double layer in the box, and have somme pre-cut foam strips to section them off from each other. Heavy models in the bottom of the box, large models on top of that, then standard figs. This method should cost you less than 10 usd.

For future expansions, I would recommend the GW cases. Greater density of models per unit volume and per dollar. Try putting a gaunt heavy army into sabol cases, and you are gonna blow a fortune in foam. You will also need one of their tall, roller cases. I've got one of those, but it's more for warmachine and other armys with big, akward models.

I am planning on using something like this

I'll line the interior with a thin sheet of galvanized steel and magnetize all the basses.

If you want to cram a lot of small figures in one space...Magnetize their bases, and put them on something metal.

I have something like 36 fire warriors and 40 kroot standing in one 2" foam tray in a Sabol Army transport. I just ripped all of the foam out of it except for the edges and then glued some sheet metal in the bottom. Friends have done the same to store tons of orks and tons of gaunts/genestealers.

Obviously you can do this in most of the solutions provided. Obviously it's better if it's something where they would be standing upright in this setup (though my kroot/FWs won't fall out if I hold it upside down, some of my magnetized metal miniatures don't stay in place as well, even with multiple magnets.

An extreme solution once you've magnetized them is to just get a metal toolbox with sliding drawers.

I use the cheap-o cardboard boxes they sell for collectible cards, lined with foam on the bottom.

I'm a big fan of toolboxes. They're not that expensive, are sturdy, and you can lock them.

Sabol. It is the only way to be sure.

I second the magnetic thing. I am using a Sabol bag with 2" trays that have been hollowed out, very thin sheet metal laid in the bottom and each model given a small magnet under the base.

I fit multiple large mobs of Orks and Grots in each tray.

So far the only prob is that some of the magnets that I glued to the bottom of the figs have decided to stay on the metal sheet instead. Also, the trays become a little heavy/wobbly with all the models in them. I use other taller trays to accomodate the larger Ork models like Ghaghkull, WAAAGH Banner Nob and Killa Kans.
