I just played my first 40K game a few days ago and found it to be very refreshing from WHFB. I decided to go dreads because I like the idea of the few versus the many. My chapter is the Equistratus Prime from the very muddy moon of Nameeb.

Here's my list:
HQ
"Vulkan He'stan" Catpain Garakin 190 points

Master of the Forge Falnir (he's a squat in artificer armor ) 100 points

Troops
Tactical Squad 170
Flamer; Missle Launcher

Tactical Squad 170
Flamer; Missle Launcher

Tactical Squad 170
Flamer; Missle Launcher

Elite
Ironclad Dreadnought 190
Chainfist;Meltagun; Heavy Flamer; Drop Pod w/ Beacon

Ironclad Dreadnought 190
Chainfist;Meltagun; Heavy Flamer; Drop Pod w/ Beacon

Ironclad Dreadnought 190
Chainfist;Meltagun; Heavy Flamer; Drop Pod w/ Beacon

Heavy Support
Ironclad Dreadnought 180
Chainfist;Meltagun; Heavy Flamer; Drop Pod

Ironclad Dreadnought 180
Chainfist;Meltagun; Heavy Flamer; Drop Pod

Ironclad Dreadnought 180
Chainfist;Meltagun; Heavy Flamer; Drop Pod

That's 1910 points with a little extra for changes against different armies like 30 points to replace my meltaguns with second heavyflamers for those green tides. Tell me what you think!

Well, six drop podded Ironclads are scary. But you need to hold mission objects and this is where the army is lacking. I'd take 4 troop units, 2 static units and 2 units in Rhinos, both units led by a Vet Serg with power fist.

I think six scoring units could be enough, but perhaps another one might be warranted.

I'd probably add deathwind to some or all of the pods to help with horde clearing so your dreads don't get bogged down.

I'll second wuestenfux: you need some way to get scoring units across the field and legging it is pretty inefficient even if the Dreadnoughts clear the end-zone out for you.

Also, if the enemy has long ranged weapons and spreads out after the initial shock of the landing, then you're kinda screwed.

My suggestions are to swap two of the Ironclad Dreadnoughts for two Dreadnoughts w/Missile Launcher & Plasma Cannon combinations, and Extra Armour, and besides giving you some long ranged punch it'll save 100 points.

Use those points to give two Tactical Squads Drop Pods, which you can go cheap on because you should land your troops in the second wave so they have less opportunity to be killed. If you give them Melta Guns instead of their default Flamethrowers to hunt armour/bunkers in the landing zone, then you have good reason to upgrade those Ironclads to double Heavy Flamethrowers to clear infantry.

Vulkan and the Master of the Forge can also hop in with these Tactical Squads if you need them downfield.

This would give you four Ironclads to Deep Strike in the first wave with their Locator Beacons to bring in the second wave of two Dreadnoughts and two Tactical Squads. The third Tactical Squad combat squads and hangs around your backfield guarding your own objectives.
